Blocksy is a fast-paced puzzle arcade game built for the Playdate.

Keep the center box alive as long as you can by pushing incoming blocks into it and clearing its edges.

Fill an entire side of the box horizontally or vertically and the blocks disappear. Clear multiple sides at once for bigger scores and if you manage to clear the entire box, you’ll earn a massive bonus.

But be careful: if you force blocks into the box and they don’t fit, you lose health. Lose all your health and it’s game over.

How long can you keep the box alive?

Gameplay

Blocks approach the center box from random directions and gradually speed up as the game progresses.

Your job is to push those blocks into the box and arrange them so the edges fill up completely. When an edge is filled, it clears.

  • Clear 1–3 edges for points
  • Clear all 4 edges  for double points and extra health

The deeper you get into the game, the faster the blocks arrive — and the harder it becomes to plan your moves.

Controls

Rotate the box

  • Turn the crank forward or press A → rotate clockwise
  • Turn the crank backward or press B → rotate counter-clockwise

Push blocks into the box

  • Use the D-pad to push incoming blocks toward the center.
Example: Press Down to push blocks at the top downward into the box.

Pause

  • Press A + B simultaneously

Points

Points are awarded when you clear edges.

4180

If the box is empty after clearing the edges, you get double points. Clearing all four edges at once gives you extra health.

Levels

The game speeds up over time.

  • Start at Level 1
  • Every 1000 points → level up
  • Each level increases block speed
  • Leveling up also gives you extra health

Survive long enough and the game becomes seriously intense.

Slo-mo

Starting at Level 3, the game may randomly trigger Slo-Mo Mode. For 30 seconds, everything slows down — giving you a rare chance to set up big clears or wipe the board entirely.

Use it wisely.

Settings

Pressing the menu button offers the following settings:

  • Flip d-pad
Reverses D-pad behavior so directions point toward the blocks you want to push.
  • Flip rotation
    Reverses box rotation controls.
  • Restart
    Return to the title screen.

Great game - simple and addictive - good use of the crank - one of my best game on playdate !

Thanks! Really glad you're enjoying it!

This is a great game. I would reverse the controls on the d-pad (so they are in the direction of travel), or maybe provide an option to toggle this?

And there's another playdate game called 'Blocks' maybe a more descriptive title is possible?

Finally, how do you clear 4 edges 'without empty box'?

Thanks very much for your comment!

A menu option to reverse the d-pad is coming up in the next version.

I hadn't noticed that there was another game called blocks! I've updated the title of this page. It will take a bit longer to change the title screen in the game (I may try and come up with a different name altogether).

Regarding clearing 4 edges without an empty box: very good point :D I've updated the page. Thanks again for trying the game and for your feedback!

You're welcome! Is it possible to clear 4 edges simultaneously, anyway?

(+1)

It is, but you need quite a bit of luck! If you're quick, you can add extra blocks to be box before lines are cleared, so if you happen to have the right blocks waiting at the sides of the playing field, you might be able to fill all edges of the box.
