LSST Discovery Alliance provides grants to support the costs of childcare related to participation in Rubin LSST and IceCube conferences and meetings, thanks to the generous support of the Heising-Simons Foundation. These grants are intended to support the costs of essential childcare, above and beyond the ordinary expenses, that would be required to participate in a meeting. These grants are not typically intended to support costs related to bringing school-aged children to meetings.
Examples of scenarios that these flexible grants can cover include: (1) bringing dependent(s) to the meeting and hiring a local caregiver, (2) bringing dependent(s) and a caregiver to the meeting, or (3) hire extra caregiving assistance at home to cover time when you would be the primary caregiver. These grants cannot provide a spouse with pay to care for their child(ren).
Because these funds are paid as grants and not as reimbursements, they may be considered as taxable income, depending on your country's tax regulations.
We will do our best to accommodate all requests, depending on demand. Applications are considered on a rolling basis until the funding is fully allocated. Any scientist participating in a Rubin LSST or IceCube-related meeting is eligible for this program. You will hear a response to your request within 2-3 weeks of submission.
