SO FEBRUARY IS ACTUALLY DONE

Goal: 20 movies. Did it!

I started this month off with a mini Louis Garrel movie spree. I figured, I want to watch more french movies. I've already watched and enjoyed two of his movies, why not more?! I watched Inside Paris first, which was good. It's about brothers and family and depression and stuff.

La belle personne, aka The Beautiful Person, aka well that escalated quickly. It's about a pervy teacher who pervs on a student. It's based off of a french novel according to wikipedia. She ends up leaving the city because ~their love~ is too strong. Or he's just a creep.

Imagine that you're a young man. You go out for a fun night with your mom and her bff. While in the taxi your mom's bff fingers your ass and you decide it's a good idea to lick her fingers clean. Ma Mere! ..............yup.

Aw, Warm Bodies. It was cute! Cute. Funny. Cute.

So my friend is all, "Hey hey loverboy you have to watch this movie." That's how I ended up watching Frakenfish, which is, surprisingly, not that bad! A classic example of B horror done right.

While previously mentioned friend is still over we decide to watch some more amazing cinema. C.H.U.D. What does it stand for? Canibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller. It's amazing.

To finish off the movie night with my friend we watched Clue. I've seen it before and it's just as good the second time around! Better, even. If you haven't watched it you should. Go. Do it. Now.

To help increase my documentary count I watched The Hollywood Complex. It was good but also fairly sad. I'm glad I never tried to become an actor.

Silver Linings Playbook showed me that if you have enough money and influence an Oscar can be yours! Now, it wasn't a bad movie. It was good. I enjoyed it. But it definitely does not deserve all the hype it's getting.

My biggest dissapointment of the month was Butter, mostly because I thought from the trailer that it'd be another Little Miss Sunshine. But it wasn't as quirky as I hoped it'd be! Still a fun movie, as fun as a movie about butter carving can be.

Wild Tigers I Have Known. Yawn.

I tried to watch XXY a few months ago but had to stop during a certain scene. I rewatched it and it's a really good movie, but it's really, idk, it's a downer. This is not a feel good movie at all.

Womb was a good movie. Weird, slightly uncomfortable, but good.

Kaboom was a bad movie. The world explodes at the end. I'm serious. It does. Kaboom. ...Teehee aren't they clever?

As far as gay hustler movies go, Our Paradise is probably the best I've seen.

TOP 3

BOTTOM 3

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Kaboom

Howl

Hansel & Gretel

Les Misérables

SO FEBRUARY IS ALMOST DONE

I was going to do a mid-month update but I got really lazy? So I'll just talk about some of the movies I watched at the beginning of the month so it's not one giant glob of a post at the end of the month.

Hansel & Gretel : Witch Hunters - I DID NOT LIKE THIS MOVIE. I talked about it a bit on twitter and overall I was super disapointed in this mess of a movie. I didn't expect much, seriously, and it doesn't take much when it comes for me to enjoy something in the fantasy genre... but this movie, whyyyy. It was rated 14A in Canada and R in the States, but I don't really pay attention to ratings so I was surprised with how brutal this movie was? Like you have all the witches and fantasy (aka stupid looking) guns and then this brutal Tarantino-esque violence that's nearly almost all against women. Eh, it made me uncomfortable and I saw it in 3D so I had to pay $20 for this shit. :|

I STARTED THIS MONTH OFF REAL AWFULLY, didn't I, Wrecked? Super (super) indie gay flick with a whole lot of cock in it. No, I'm serious, cock everywhere. Boring plot. Bad acting. Bad everything.

I watched Punch but I don't really remember it, like, at all? Too long and not interesting enough for me, imo.

Based on a true story! Love knows no bounds! Same Same But Different looked promising and it wasn't bad, really, but there was no chemistry between the two leads so it was super difficult to believe that this guy would go through so much shit for a girl. Sometimes it felt like the movie was trying to portray the seedier sides of going off to a poor Asian country and sleeping with prostitutes, but then it got really cliche? I don't know? What's going on?

I've never seen Les Misérables on stage or anything before and all I knew about it going in was that a lot of people were sad? And died? The singing felt a bit off (mostly from Hugh Jackman, of all people) but it was an enjoyable movie.

I've been meaning to stick my toe into Indian film so I ended up watching Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge one night. It was good! Typical rom-com with some musical numbers. I liked it, yay.

I can't stand James Franco so it took a long time for me to talk myself into watching Howl. I didn't hate it! I actually enjoyed it. I found it interesting. I still hate James Franco.

Seven years in the making, Pink Narcissus! ...Not my cup of tea.

And to finish this off, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the Swedish film! I really liked it. Like a lot. I didn't think I would because it's so so so focussed on sexual abuse against women. And I don't like Mikael Blomkvist all that much as a protagonist (which is why I'm having trouble getting through the second film). Uh, go Lisbeth? Yay.

JANUARY MOVIE ROUND UP

aka holy shit January is done today is February 1st how did that happen?!

A current tally~

Technically I watched Sassy Pants on the very last day of 2012. It ended fifteen minutes before midnight but I'm going to include it anyways because I make the rules.
Highlight? Haley Joel Osment in cutoff jean shorts and guyliner.
Lowlight? Haley Joel Osment in cutoff jean shorts and guyliner.

Looper was a surprisingly surprising surprise. Less action more plot, I thought it'd be a lot worse.

I had already seen it two times before, but I have no problem with seeing Paul for a third time. It's just one of those well paced comedies you can chill out and enjoy.

...I don't even remember how Nate & Margaret ended? I know I watched it. I really did. I don't dislike the movie. I vaguely remembering enjoying it, but idk. Sometimes movies just don't make an impression on me. My brain is only so big. I can't remember everything.

I Will Follow was a good movie. Life drama~ Interesting characters. Fun to watch. A random Netflix find that I decided to watch one evening when I had nothing to do.

Two socially stunted stoner car thief outcasts take in a neglected child! Ladies and gents, A Bag of Hammers. It's like a super cute indie bromance film. That's how I'll describe it. The ending is actually super adorable and it's pretty much the quintessential heterosexual life partners flick. IT WILL GET YOU IN THE FEELS AND YOU WILL LIKE IT.

I've been meaning to watch I Love You Phillip Morris for the longest time! I noticed it was on Netflix so Dad and I flopped down on evening and watched it. It's good! It's great! ...It's really depressing when you remember it's based off a true story. Out of all of the movies I watched this month, this is the one I'd recommend the most.

What's slow moving, mildly confusing and makes Michael Fassbender look like a serial killer? Shame! Honestly just skip this movie. It doesn't give you anything and just made me feel mildly depressed. And not in a good way.

Paranorman! I saw this when it was in theaters (during a more than awkward first date) and I really wanted to get the DVD, mostly for the behind the scenes features. Stop motion film taken to the nth degree. The character design is fantastic and the film itself is good. Zombies! Witches! Also, a surprising gay character that is handled fantastically. (Which you've probably already been spoiled about.) But it was super nice to watch for the first time and have no idea that Mitch has a boyfriend that really enjoys chick flicks.

Strapped was... is... um. Wannabe artsy film about a gay hustler. I get where they were going with it but it wasn't very subtle when it was trying to be subtle the whole film. idk. IDK. Cheese. Sub par acting. ...And a fair bit of sex?

My only documentary for the month was Whores' Glory. Well done. I enjoyed it. ...And depressing, obviously. Definitely see it if you're into docs and such, just don't expect it to lift your spirits or any shit like that.

And my only musical, and second favourite of the month, Love Songs! This is another movie I've been meaning to watch but never got around to, but I finally did. And I'm glad I did! I'm usually not a big fan of musicals, mostly because I normally don't like the music in said musicals. But I adored Love Songs. I really liked Louis Garrel in The Dreamers and I've been meaning to see more of his films... and both so far have featured relationships involving three people? My favourite song from it. Now go watch it.

Hey there Emmy Rossum, what are you doing in Dare? I ended up watching this movie because I needed something to watch while I was doing my nails, and it was in the Gay & Lesbian section of Netflix. Teen angst! Discovering sexuality! ...idk it was average.

And that's it! 14 movies in all, some good, some not so good. I want to watch more in February. 20, maybe? Sure, 20. That'll be my goal.

TOP 3

BOTTOM 3

Love Songs

Shame

I Love You Phillip Morris

Strapped

Bag of Hammers

Nate & Margaret

NETFLIX. Oh Netflix, what did I do without you? Right. I had a life.

And without Netflix I never would have been introduced to this lovely gem. Yes. Nazis. AT THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. (I never finished watching the movie, tyvm)

Anyways. Between my marathon sessions of Brothers & Sisters I've been doing my best to get through the LGBT section. Which... is 90% crap. It's painful. Very painful. BUT AS FOR WHAT I HAVE WATCHED

Judas Kiss - This film presses a very important question that we all must consider: If you ran into your past self would you recognize them, and if not, would you fuck them? ...TIME TRAVEL YEEEAH. And I have to take a moment to lol at the casting. Who do you cast as your resident bad boy? Some Belgian actor that used to host segments on Dutch Disney Channel. And who do you cast for your big doe eyed innocent pure love interest? Brent Corrigan. Overall, okay film, low budget looking in a bad way, acting only slightly embarrassing.

C.R.A.Z.Y. - Ah, French cinema. No, wait, Quebecois cinema. It's not Heartbeats so it can't be that bad. Okay actually, admittedly, I was half asleep when I watched this and despite my super mad subtitle reading abilities, it means I didn't process half of what was happening. It was good from what I remember. Should watch it again.

The Curosity of Chance - If movies were people this movie would be a wannabe hipster that wants to be cool and witty and woefully misunderstood but in a totally hot way but it fails at all of the above. idek.

So now that it's summer and I don't have school or any real obligations until September (except for the whole moving in thing with my dad) I have been watching a shit tonne of TV shows that I've always wanted to watch but never did. Or never heard of.

I polished off the first season of Being Human. So a vampire, werewolf and ghost walk into a bar... tbh I'm a bit tired of the whole "woe is my, I'm a terribly charming vampire! whhhhy! my liiiiife!" but Annie is adorable and I have a soft spot for George. The three of them are all super cute together and I love it. But tbh I'd like if the relationship between the three stay platonic. I like the family vibe they have going on.

Brothers & Sisters! Will always sound incestuous to me, always. I'm a few episodes in and it's far better than I'd thought it be. I got it off of this list and it's my first official step into stuffing my head with as much queer TV I can get my hands on. I'll focus on the queer aspect atm and just say that Kevin is a cutie and Scotty is even cuter and accidentally spoiled myself and I'm happy that they get married in the future.

I'm also rewatching Misfits. With my dad. How do I end up watching all the sexually charged TV shows with one of my parents?

I wish a tiny bit that they had stopped at the end of season 2. It was all so perfect. :(
