AAC Awareness Month
AAC Awareness Month, by Autistic Academic. AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication, which includes signing, picture cards/boards and Speech Generating Devices (SGD’s). I found this article particularly interesting, because I hadn’t previously thought about “sometimes” AAC users – I’d always considered that the people who had speech used speech, and the people who didn’t have speech used AAC devices. Sad (but understandable) to read about her fear of being thought “Odd in that way” or “brain not working right” if she did use a SGD, as she is known to have speech.
