Loren Grush is a space reporter for Bloomberg, where she covers everything from NASA, human spaceflight, and the booming commercial space industry to distant stars and planets. She is also the author of The Six: The Untold Story of America’s First Women Astronauts, a 2023 New York Times editor’s pick and named a Best Amazon History Book of 2023. The daughter of two NASA engineers, she grew up surrounded by space shuttles and rocket scientists—literally. Prior to joining Bloomberg, she was a senior science reporter for The Verge, where she covered space and hosted her own online video series called Space Craft, a show that examined what it takes to send people into the cosmos. Loren has also published stories in Popular Science, The New York Times, Nautilus Magazine, Digital Trends, Fox News, and ABC News.

“After a 12-house auction, which happened over the course of a week, Scribner’s Rick Horgan won North American rights to Loren Grush’s The Six. Susan Canavan at Waxman Literary Agency, who represented Grush, likened the narrative nonfiction book to bestsellers like Code Girls and Hidden Figures. It follows, Canavan said, “the six women chosen from 8,000 applicants to be America’s first female astronauts, and the challenges they faced in their quest to fly on the space shuttle.” The author is a senior reporter at Verge and the daughter of NASA engineers. The deal also included a young readers edition, which Justin Chanda and Kendra Levin acquired for Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers.
