Creator of still-developing worlds, he has produced several radio dramas for Rai 3 theater, and his works have been performed worldwide. He has collaborated with <strong>Lamberto Pignotti, Marco Colonna, Fabrizio Spera, Elio Martusciello, and Barbara de Dominicis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Video Program<\/strong><br \/>\nIrit Batsry is an internationally recognized and awarded artist and video artist based in Lisbon, where she is involved in various artistic, cultural, and audiovisual projects. For <strong>\u201cIl Giardino del Video\u201d<\/strong>, she selected works from festivals produced and organized by <strong>Duplacena, Lisbon<\/strong>, founded by Antonio Camara Manuel in 2003 and directed by him. Duplacena is a dynamic presence in cultural production and innovative artistic projects. Irit Batsry also co-founded <strong>\u201cTemps d\u2019images,\u201d \u201cLoops.Expanded,\u201d<\/strong> and <strong>\u201cVEM \u2013 Videoarte em Movimento.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/zbigniew-rybczynski\/\">Zbigniew Rybczy\u0144ski<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/tango\/\">Tango<\/a>, Poland 1981, 8\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\nAn undisputed masterpiece of animation cinema (originally produced on film), this work anticipates the author\u2019s later video and digital creations, featuring surprising and pioneering effects for its time. Through a painstaking process of assembly and \u201ccutting,\u201d a room becomes increasingly crowded in a surreal way.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/enrique-ramirez\/\">Enrique Ram\u00edrez<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/cruzar-un-muro\/\">Cruzar un muro<\/a>, Chile 2012, 5\u201942\u2019\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\nA film inspired by Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states: \u201cEveryone has the right to leave any country, including their own, and to return to their country.\u201d A waiting room, a public immigration office located \u201csomewhere,\u201d becomes a stage where contemporary human aspirations converge\u2026 waiting, hope, nostalgia, the right to dream, travel, meet, and aspire to freedom of movement and residence within one\u2019s country\u2014or the right to return home\u2026 All this is metaphorically represented in this blend of fiction and reality.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/eugenio-ampudia\/\">Eugenio Ampudia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/la-verdad-es-una-excusa\/\">La verdad es una excusa<\/a>, Spain 2007, 4\u201942\u2019\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\nThrough the simple mechanism of reversing the film projection, the video returns Spanish Civil War exiles to their side of the border, bringing them home before our eyes, highlighting the cruelty of their historical fate and the parallel brotherhood with today\u2019s exiles.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/mane\/\">Man\u00e9 Pacheco<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/mane-periodo-azul\/\">Per\u00edodo Azul<\/a>, Portugal 2018, 11\u201945\u2019\u2019, SILENT<\/strong><br \/>\nA non-chronological reinterpretation of iconic works by \u201cgreat masters of art\u201d (20th century to today), centered on the color blue as the starting point for a story that literally unfolds on a paper roll. Filmed\/drawn\/filmed again in a mise en ab\u00eeme movement, it physically reproduces the immaterial \u201cloop\u201d of the image. The construction of iconic (and ironic) images begins with traditional drawing and painting techniques, later replaced by domestic\/intimate objects. The mirrored effect between the loop and its reflection emphasizes the repetition of trends at significant moments in Western art.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/maxime-martinot\/\">Maxime Martinot<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/les-antelopes\/\">Les Antelopes<\/a>, found footage, France-Portugal, 2020, 8\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\nLes Antelopes begins with a line by Marguerite Duras: \u201cOne day, on the coasts of Morocco, one hundred and fifty years ago, thousands of antelopes threw themselves into the sea together.\u201d The work intertwines drone footage of deserted landscapes hunting antelopes; created in Paris during lockdown, it also shows empty urban spaces monitored from above. Animals and people appear hunted, in an enigmatic and evocative composition of found online footage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Festival Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>VEM \u2013 Videoarte in Movimento<\/strong><br \/>\nA traveling experience curated by Duplacena (Lisbon) and Projector (Madrid), dedicated to Iberian and international audiovisual creation, renewing both the locations and modes of viewing: screenings take place in transient venues, transported by van across Spain and Portugal, featuring a mix of classics and new works. In summer, in public and open spaces, the program (curated by <strong>Alisson Avila, Mario Guti\u00e9rrez, and Irit Batsry<\/strong>) travels to various locations, from Madrid and Lisbon to smaller and \u201cspecial\u201d sites.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Loops.Expanded<\/strong>, now in its 10th edition, is a network of curators who annually select international videos through an open call, inspired by the idea of repetition, or the \u201cloop\u201d in a broad sense. In Italy, the program is hosted in Pisa at <strong>Ondavideo<\/strong>. Selected videos are shown at the <strong>National Museum of Contemporary Art of Chiado in Lisbon<\/strong>, in various art spaces in Madrid, at the <strong>Arsenale cineclub in Pisa<\/strong>, and elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FUSO<\/strong>, an annual video art festival now in its 17th edition, is a major video art event in Portugal, taking place in late August in open and evocative spaces across Lisbon (cloisters and gardens of museums and historical sites). Spectators relax on deck chairs while attending themed evenings. In the first, a competition dedicated to Portuguese production awards a prize in addition to the jury\u2019s choice. Programs are presented by curators from around the world. FUSO has also had a recent island edition in autumn in the Azores.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Il Giardino del Video<\/strong> is an <strong>Ondavideo project<\/strong> supported by <strong>Fondazione Pisa<\/strong> and <strong>Comune di Pisa<\/strong>, with the support of <strong>cineclub Arsenale<\/strong>. In the 18 edition of the festival we present around 50 artists in 25 venues of the city of Madrid.<\/div>\n<p>We received 110 of 40 countries submitted works is a testimony of the loop strengths and vitality. That\u2019s the reason why we had a fascinating, but no easy (and slightly delayed) task. Fortunately enough, the submitted works enabled us having a real, beautiful and convincing discussion about purposes and meanings.<\/p>\n<p>So in this list, we are sharing the works for which we have a commitment to show. Each curatorial partner will select one or more works and, depending on local conditions, the form of the exhibition could include shows or screenings in museums, galleries, theatres or outdoors screenings, symposiums and\/or masterclasses. Hopefully, we will have a second list of more confirmed exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>This network aims to not to function as a traditional jury that just selects or rejects, but rather as a curatorial group whose goal is to unite and exhibit a \u2018treasure trove\u2019 around the loop. This archetype of continuity appears in cultures as disparate as Norse mythology, Hinduism and Mesoamerican civilisations, becoming a universal emblem of the cyclical flow of life. In alchemy, it represents the unity of the elements and the constant change of form: nothing disappears, only transforms. This eternal cycle of life and regeneration inspires and is reflected in each work of this audiovisual exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition brings together audiovisual pieces that explore repetition as both a narrative and philosophical resource, in a dialogue between time, memory and nature. Through repetitive movement, her installation questions self-control and self-perception, as a visual reflection of the Ouroboros: a perpetually rotating figure that reminds us how old concepts of femininity are continually renewed, \u2018going mad\u2019 in an infinite self-exploration. As the artist points out, the twist in the piece evokes the struggle between discipline and its loss, alluding to the cycle of mastery and liberation posed by the Ouroboros.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/ilaria-di-carlo\/\">Ilaria di Carlo<\/a>, in <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/the-divine-way\/\">The Divine Way<\/a>, invites us on a descent inspired by Dante\u2019s *Divine Comedy*, where a protagonist traverses an endless labyrinth of stairs. This journey evokes a visual narrative in which the spaces change and the immersion into the \u2018underworld\u2019 acts as an introspective cycle, a continuous descent that explores the search for identity and self-discovery. In the words of Nietzsche, \u2018If you look long into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you\u2019. This piece reflects the cycle of death and rebirth in a metaphorical way, involving the viewer in a constant process of transformation.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/a-possible-portrait-of-my-mother\/\">A possible portrait of my mother<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/javier-olivera\/\">Javier Olivera<\/a> explores the nature of affection and memory. Through archival images and Super 8 films, he uses the loop as a resource that, like a mantra, evokes intimacy and the desire to preserve the past. This affective loop, an incessant repetition of memories, reflects the cycle of Ouroboros, where nostalgia becomes an act of continuous creation. The repetition of a single musical note throughout the piece enhances this trance-like atmosphere, suggesting that memory itself is an \u2018infinite loop\u2019, a spiral that never dies out, but is endlessly transformed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/lukas-marxt\/\">Lukas Marxt<\/a> presents in <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/circular-inscription\/\">Circular Inscription<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/reign-of-silence\/\">Reign of Silence<\/a> two pieces that pay homage to the Land Art of the sixties and seventies, with a minimalist aesthetic that refers to iconic works such as Robert Smithson\u2019s Spiral Jetty. In Circular Inscription, a car spirals across the dry Lake El Mirage, while Reign of Silence shows the movement of a motorboat on a lonely lake, leaving an ephemeral wake. Both works highlight the relationship between humans and the natural environment and explore the notion of permanence versus the temporal. In the 17 edition of the festival we present around 50 artists in 25 venues of the city of Madrid.<\/div>\n<p>We received 110 of 40 countries submitted works is a testimony of the loop strengths and vitality. That\u2019s the reason why we had a fascinating, but no easy (and slightly delayed) task. Fortunately enough, the submitted works enabled us having a real, beautiful and convincing discussion about purposes and meanings.<\/p>\n<p>So in this list, we are sharing the works for which we have a commitment to show. Each curatorial partner will select one or more works and, depending on local conditions, the form of the exhibition could include shows or screenings in museums, galleries, theatres or outdoors screenings, symposiums and\/or masterclasses. From poetry to artists&#8217; formal and philosophical viewpoints, this selection deconstructs and reconstructs on this essential form of the moving image.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Opening the cycle in <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/duplacena77\/\">Duplacena77<\/a> is <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/em-busca-de-averrois\/\">in search of Averrois<\/a>, where Portuguese <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/joao-cristovao-leitao\/\">Jo\u00e3o Crist\u00f3v\u00e3o Leit\u00e3o<\/a> weaves a majestic construction of the circularity of memory. In a second room, two short works are juxtaposed: <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/the-duchamp-manifesto\/\">THE DUCHAMP MANIFESTO (\u00abBesides, it is always the others who die\u00bb)<\/a>, by Spaniard <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/fermin-diez-de-ulzurrun\/\">Ferm\u00edn D\u00edez de Ulzurrun<\/a>, , a cautionary tale of causes and consequences of deep fake; and the pandemic <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/notebook-of-the-plague\/\">Notebook of the Plague<\/a> \u2013 a critical, personal and intimate view by <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/terry-berkowitz\/\">Terry Berkowitz<\/a>, a North American video artist active since the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">At the <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/mnac\/\">MNAC<\/a>, three works will be shown consecutively. The first is the iconic experimental videoart work <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/0778\/\">0778<\/a>, by Brazilian <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/marcellvs-l\/\">Marcellvs L.<\/a>, a poem operating from the transition from analog magnetic to digital language in a long shot that jiggles with time, space and perception. In <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/chantier\/\"> Chantier<\/a> (2023), French artist Cyril Galmiche explores his ideas of simultaneity, superimposition and objective relativization of reality, by choreographing over 2h30 the movements of a construction site. And <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/blind-spot\/\">Blind Spot <\/a>by Portuguese artist <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/helena-ferreira\/\">Helena Ferreira<\/a>, is an installation that plays with the materiality of light and the possibility of considering images in and out of focus as the most paradoxical of loops.<\/p>\n<p><a end, a beginning normally with a void, be it sound or visual, and a time when we already consider it finished. It fulfills a cycle and as such, a function, almost like infinity, like a perfect circle, almost magical, to which only art can take us.<\/p>\n<p>This new collaboration ART MADRID\u2013PROYECTOR, once again under the curatorship of Mario Guti\u00e9rrez Cru, we want to investigate the concept of the loop, or loop in Spanish, a word that not even the RAE dictionary\u00a0 knows how to define precisely. That is why we want to invite PIONEERS to rethink this concept, from an etymological, philosophical and, of course, artistic point of view, focusing on the sound, visual and corporal construction of said word.<\/p>\n<p>For this new edition of Art Madrid&#8217;22 we offer you a tour over almost 2 weeks (from February 19 to 27, 2022), which consists of a theoretical base with professional meetings open to the public and another practice with installations, projection of international curators and actions at the fair itself. Focusing mainly on video art, experimental music and performance, all disciplines that will open this debate for us.<\/p>\n<p>Starting with the most reflective part, inviting experts who, during the professional table, will talk to us about the meaning of the loop from very different positions, disciplines and perspectives. pleasure of sharing the results of its work on the 2021 International Open Call.<\/p>\n<p>Just as we said when the submission phase has ended,\u00a0the quality and diversity of the 110 of 40 countries submitted works is a testimony of the loop strengths and vitality. That\u2019s the reason why we had a fascinating, but no easy (and slightly delayed) task. <a href=\"https:\/\/duplacena.com\/en\/homepage\/\">Duplacena<\/a> and which aims to provide a relational experience and make video art in an environment known of transition, of movement.<br \/>\nThe proposal consists of a van that will travel<strong> from Madrid to Lisbon,<\/strong> for closings to be defined in the week of <strong>August 18th to 23rd<\/strong>, showing an exclusive program of Portuguese video artists during the nights of the trip.<br \/>\nFor this first edition, works exhibited from 2015 onwards in the scope of <strong>Loops.Lisboa<\/strong>, produced by Duplacena in the <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/mnac\/\">National Museum of Contemporary Art \u2013 Museo Chiado (MNAC)<\/a> were selected.<br \/>\nAlways respecting the rules of social distance, the That\u2019s the reason why we had a fascinating, but no easy (and slightly delayed) task. Fortunately enough, the submitted works enabled us to have a real, beautiful and convincing discussion about purposes and meanings.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>So in this list, we are sharing the works for which we have a commitment to show. Each curatorial partner will select one or more works and, depending on local conditions, the form of the exhibition could include shows or screenings in museums, galleries, theatres or outdoors screenings, symposiums and\/or masterclasses. As you can imagine, we were not able to find exhibition opportunities for all works that we appreciated: hopefully, we will have a second list of more confirmed exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>This network aims to not to function as a traditional jury that just selects or rejects, but rather as a curatorial group whose goal is to unite and exhibit a \u2018treasure trove\u2019 around the loop. Of the 18 works selected by the network of curators, 7 will be exhibited in Lisbon. Each of the 7 videos, by artists from Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Israel, Italy and Palestine \/ Norway, will be shown for 3 weeks each in a 4 month cycle curated by <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/emilia-tavares\/\">Em\u00edlia Tavares<\/a> (MNAC), <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/iritbatsry\/\">Irit Batsry<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/loops-expanded.com\/profile\/alisson-avila\/\">Alisson Avila<\/a> (Loops.Expanded).<\/p>\n<p>A parallel program consisting of interviews with the artists and a closing conference will be announced shortly.<\/p>\n<p>The network, founded in 2019, expands the original initiative of Loops Lisboa started in 2015. That\u2019s the reason why we had a fascinating, but no easy (and slightly delayed) task. Fortunately enough, the submitted works enabled us to have a real, beautiful and convincing discussion about purposes and meanings.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>So in this list, we are sharing the works for which we have a commitment to show. Each curatorial partner will select one or more works and, depending on local conditions, the form of the exhibition could include shows or screenings in museums, galleries, theatres or outdoors screenings, symposiums and\/or masterclasses. As you can imagine, we were not able to find exhibition opportunities for all works that we appreciated: hopefully, we will have a second list of more confirmed exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>This network aims to not to function as a traditional jury that just selects or rejects, but rather as a curatorial group whose goal is to unite and exhibit a \u2018treasure trove\u2019 around the loop. The works length range from a few seconds up to infinite loops and the intended exhibiting formats include outdoor projections, multiscreen installations, GIFs, gallery exhibitions and theatre screenings.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re looking forward to sharing our Annual Selection results at the end of June. The selected works will be invited to take part in different exhibitions in Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands, Italy and Brazil. Each curatorial partner will select one or more works and, depending on local conditions, the form of the exhibition could include shows or screenings in museums, galleries, theatres or outdoors screenings, symposiums and\/or masterclasses.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to all the artists and collectives taking part in this international and decentralized network, dedicated to exhibiting and researching the concept and the form of the loop in video art \/ moving image.
