Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management Updates Area Coordinator Boundaries

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) has updated the areas of responsibility for field staff as part of an ongoing effort to enhance support for local emergency managers across the state.

In 2025, OEM expanded its field staff from four coordinators to eight, reducing the number of counties assigned to each coordinator and providing more direct support to local emergency management programs. At that time, the existing regions were divided in half to establish the new coordinator assignments.

Beginning this June, OEM has adjusted area boundaries to create a more balanced distribution of counties and local emergency management programs among Area Coordinators. The changes are intended to ensure emergency managers across Oklahoma receive consistent, effective support.

In conjunction with the boundary updates, OEM is also transitioning from the term “Regions” to “Areas” to reduce confusion with other regional designations used by partner organizations. The state is now divided into eight Areas, numbered clockwise beginning in the northwest corner of Oklahoma.

The updated Area Coordinator map includes revised area boundaries and coordinator assignments.
