1 Week ago friend's mother passes. I host 2 days of shivah-lite as friend is very non-religious, (while being fairly spiritual), which was appreciated.
earlier this week find out MIL has had poor results from lumpectomy. Margins poor. MRI scheduled, mastectomy probable in the next month.
this morning found out my sister-by-choice is now in hospice - her decision. She has systemic cancers, diagnosed in January.
To take a line from "A New Brain": It's a really lousy day in the universe.
And to finish the day, find out the father of a friend has pancreatic cancer.
And on the innocence of children. (Both M.R. and D.R. were with us).
When we arrived M.R. said it looked like a hotel. And after seeing our friend with no hair, asked why. After DW explained that the sickness took it away, she said "so it will grow back when she gets better". Not breaking down upon hearing that is hard still.
