The Locomotion Scoring App was developed at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine under the direction of Dr. Nigel Cook.
When the app is opened, the user is prompted to choose a scoring system. The choices include a 3 point, 4 point or 5 point system. Once the choice has been made, the app will continue to load.
The app opens with the cursor active in the Herd Name text field. Touch the field to activate the on screen keypad and type the name. Touch Done to conclude editing. The user may select a different scoring date by touching the Date text field. A date selector will appear. Select the desired date and touch OK.
Before you begin to score animals, you must enter the number of animals contained within the pen. Touch the Number of animals in the pen text field to display the numeric keypad. Touch the desired number of animals and press Done. It may be helpful to identify the pen if you plan to do more than one by touching the Pen ID text field and typing an ID. Touch Done to complete entry.
The picture examples along the right hand side of the screen may be switched between Standing and Walking by touching the Switch to Walking button at the bottom of the screen. Press the same button again (now labeled Switch to Standing) to return the pictures to the standing position. For training purposes these pictures may be replaced with videos by touching the Switch to Video button near the bottom of the screen. Press the same button again (now labeled Switch to Pictures) to return to pictures. This feature is not available on smaller screen size devices.
As you score lame animals the count and percentage will be indicated in the text boxes below the scoring buttons. Normal cows are not scored. If an animal is scored in the wrong category, touch the switch below the scoring buttons to the Subtract position and touch the same score button. This will subtract the score and reposition the switch to Add. On small screen devices this button is in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Summary information is presented when Summary is touched in the menu list. This information can be emailed by touching Email in the menu list. Press Return in the menu or on the return device button to return to the previous screen. To clear the scored results, touch Clear Data in the menu list. All scores will be deleted and the app will be ready to start again.
To change scoring systems touch the Score System item in the menu list.
