hello. i have a problem with my community's layout. take a look >>> foodicontest <<< i'm concerned about the look of entries, the icon is touching the text and it looks awful. i was wondering if it's possible to simply hide the icon & username, leaving more space for the text. i have no idea how to do it. could you help me?

Kind of a weird question, but here goes. As far as I can tell, the "Use community userpics instead of poster's userpic" option in the customize journal screen doesn't seem to do anything for communities. I want to take a community that I maintain and make it so that each entry on the main page all has a common picture-- it can be the community's main icon, but any 100x100 picture would also work. My community is using Generator, for what it's worth. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks!

Hi everyone,

for quite a while I used to make my posts on black background using the following CSS (I omit tag brackets:

with a corresponding closing DIV.

Few days ago, this stopped working in my style. Basically, LJ started to rip off any CSS included in such a way, so in page code I do not have anymore these styles at all.

Any idea how I can adjust that or otherwise make background of my posted entry black?

Unpainted entry page

Hi, I'm working on a community house_where, and I want not only a journal page to be in my particular style, but comment pages for particular entries, like this one, to be in my community style (not the LJ "generic" style) too. I know that's possible (e. g. in this post in other community), but I couldn't find a way to implement it in my community. What am I doing wrong? Thank you!

Odd boxes

Behind the posts on the page are thin, white borders that change size depending on the browser used, how far the page is zoomed in or out, etc.

Everything is great except when you view a entry with the comments.
My entry gets sooo wide. & I can't figure it out.

Journal Help!

So lastnight I changed my journal layout and played around with the CSS to customize it. Throughout the process, I kept checking how my journal looked in a new tab, and everything was going pretty smoothly (for someone new to CSS :P). I wanted to see how the journal looked to non-friends and those not logged in, so I logged out of my account and went back to my journal.

And what the heck, my old layout came up!

When the "Recent Entries" page shows up, my old layout does too but only the header--everything else is gone. But when you click on my "Friends Page" the new layout comes up; when I'm logged in, though, there is no trace of the old layout whatsoever. I've let LJ sit overnight and checked it again this morning, but it's still the same. I have no idea how to fix this or what in the world is going on, so could someone please help me?

(and while we're at it, does anyone know how to customize the menu bar so instead of just "Recent Entries"/"User Info"/etc. it says something I put? Also, how do I keep the comments page in the journal with the same layout instead of it's own different page?)

LJ "style=mine" Problem

Hi,

I don't know if my problem fits the purpose of this group, but I'm hoping someone will have answer:

My main question: I bookmarked "javascript:location.search+=(location.search?'&':'?')
+'style=mine'" so that I could see a page in my style. It didn't work the way I wanted it to, though, so I deleted it. Problem is, all my pages are still automatically going to ?style=mine. How do I get this to stop? I deleted all the LJ cookies, but it won't go away.

Does anyone know which cookie was specifically added by the bookmark?

My bigger problem, which is why I bothered with trying the bookmarklet, is that the greasemonkey My_Livejournal_Style isn't working for me anymore. I only use it to read the comments pages of OhNoTheyDidn't, so I can't tell if it's an issue specifically related to this community. Does anyone have any other ideas about how to make only the ONTD comment pages (and not the main page or other groups) show up in my style?

I don't have a paid account, btw, so I can't change all this from my settings.

I'm using a simple php script to pull random entry header images from a directory.

background-image:url(random.php);

It works fine... for a single entry. When I have more than one entry on the page, the browser caches the first image it pulls and my "random" entry headers are all the same. I had planned to get around this by appending a random string of numbers (or I guess a timestamp would work) to the end of the image.

But durrrr, I forgot that LJ would disable any scripting! That just breaks the css. This is kind of a long shot, but does anyone know of a way to prevent the browser from caching an image... without using any prohibited scripts? I kinda doubt that it can be done, but I figured I'd try.

I want to be able to convert any Livejournal link or entry to the default view (so that it looks like this), but without disabling customized comments pages for my journal.

In other words, I know that one can append ?style=light or ?style=mine to a Livejournal link to modify how it looks; is anything similar to force pages to revert to the default style?

flexible squares - header problem

Okay, I am using a premade layout by mintyapple this one, if it matters

And like every other layout I've ever used, I usually mess with it a little to try and make it "uniquely mine" It looks like practicecherry - this right now. But I'm having a problem with the header-

Here is what I want- I want the header to scroll with the content because I want it on the left side and it does cut off. I don't think it looks appealing because of the fact the image cuts off on the guys thighs and when it's just hanging there because it doesn't scroll, it doesn't look good.

Now... I got it to scroll... that's cool. BUT! Now that it scrolls, it goes underneath my background image. =/ Is there anyway to fix that? If not, I have another idea of how I want the layout to look. But if I could fix this, it would be greatly appreciated! If you need my edited css so you can exam it and compare it to the original, let me know. I'm just trying to get this fixed.

I'm not really familiar with the Custom CCS, but after hours I could finally get a decent layout!;) BUTI have at tiny little problem. I worked with Opera brower and when checking my LJ entries it was fine, but as soon as I used IE or Firefox, the images of my LJ entries were framed! (In IE it was blue and in firefox brown). I have no idea where to change this...hopefully someone can help me because I use a lot of emoticons etc so it looks really ugly with the frame!>__<

I maintain a community, draclinks, in which I record all my links to fic. I'd like to be able to point friends in real life to this community but I don't want them to have access to my LJ blog.

I use a generator variant ("Elegant" by evan) and all the entries I've made show my LJ name and user pic as the person who has made that entry. I'd like to be able to remove this and so remain anonymous.

I've had look through your FAQ but have not been able to find anything relevant. Can anyone help me?

Hi all - first post here, I'm hoping someone can help me because I've kind of hit a wall.

I just changed my layout to the one listed here: http://community.livejournal.com/mentahelada/10647.html. I followed the directions smoothly enough, including changing the header to one of my own choosing, as you can see if you go to my own journal. However, when I plugged in the code the way the directions said, the top of my journal (the header with info, friends page, etc) seems to be off. I have no idea why this happened, especially since I didn't change the coding at all and by all accounts nothing should be causing this much of a problem. I tried playing around with the coding and have seen no change.

Also, if anyone can help me figure out how to change the sidebars (example, changing where it says "recent entries, etc" to a bio, links, etc...I'd be much appreciated. I seem to have hit a wall in that area, too, and no matter what codes I plug in nothing works.

I tried commenting on the layout maker's post, and haven't gotten a response. If anyone can offer insight, I'd appreciate it very much as I'm a little sick of my journal looking unkempt!

Help - Layout Code Problems

Hey, sorry if this is an inappropriate post but I am really in need of some help. I've been trying to start a Smallville LJ RP, and the important aspects of design are all done and dusted. Sadly though, the layout code I found and used seems to have two errors I'd like fixing. I have tried contacting the layout code creator but she did not respond to me so hopefully someone here will be able to help.

As you can see in the post titled "BAD TAG SPACING EXAMPLE" the tags field is overlapped by the "leave a comment" link, so you can barely see the latter. It would be better if the "leave comment" link was situated on a higher, seperate line to the tags field.

The second and only remaining problem is that the "friends" page has an error which causes two problems. For starters, the posts here do not show up with rounded corners at the bottom left, as they should and do in other pages, and furthermore the corner image is displaced by itself at the bottom of the screen.

If anyone thinks they can help at all, please let me know, I would really appreciate it.

Hello again.

Firstly, thanks for the reply to my first post. I managed to get the overrides working. Now I'm encountering new problems, though.

I'm doing a layout to a friend of mine (with plus account, like mine). It should have two sidebar images and one header image and a background gradient. It's easy to put the background but the sidebars and header are a problem. Basically, it should look somewhat like this: http://img26.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ljlayoutkojiakanefade.jpg

Now, as you may see from my page, where I've been testing it (http://zeshoopuf.livejournal.com/), it looks quite stupid at the moment. It's because I just have the whole image as a background because I don't know what else to do. Now, this is where my help request comes: could someone tell me or direct me to a easy-to-understand tutorial on how to make the text fit into the gradient box and make the header and sidebars, well, header and sidebars? Pretty please? I'm seriously stuck with this. I've tried to modify ready-made layouts but with my CSS understanding, it's just not working.

Or, if someone is kind and awesome enough to actually make the layout for me (I can provide you with sliced-up images and stuff like that), I'd be very, very grateful. Of course, in this case, the maker would be credited.
