Fish 005 - [Vision of Desire]

[The Dreamberry turns on to show a Japanese garden, one that is nowhere in Somarium. There is a koi pond off to the side, surrounded by decorative rocks and plants, and a sakura tree on the other side. The sun in shining, a perfect day outside.

The peace is then broken, however, by a pair of young, dark-haired boys running after each other, laughing loudly and making their way around the garden with ease, obviously having done this many times before. A woman stands off to the side, watching them attentively, her hands rubbing her swollen belly under her clothing. Her face is unseen, but she also has dark hair, though it is pulled back in a messy bun.

Suddenly, a figure appears next to the pond, kneeling down and also watching the children. That white haori and long white hair gives his identity away as Ukitake automatically. The children, having seen him, run at him from both sides, immediately wrapping their little arms around his shoulders, smiling even more widely, if that were possible. "Tou-san!" they cry, so happy to see him.

The woman slowly makes her way across the garden as Ukitake kisses each boy in turn on the forehead once, and then twice for good measure before sending them off to continue their game. As the woman approaches, he looks up at her and smiles, reaching out for the belly which is now at eye-level.

"He is almost here." He rests his forehead gently against the woman's belly, eyes falling closed. "I cannot wait to meet him."

The woman's hand reaches down to gently thread her fingers through his hair. Her voice is soft and kind, but with an underlying strength. "You are so sure it will not be a girl."

Ukitake chuckles. "A father cannot have intuition about these things?"

"Not as strong as a mother."

He laughs a little louder and presses a kiss to her belly. "Fair enough. But no matter what it turns out to be, every child is a blessing." He looks up again, brown eyes full of sincerity. "My family is a blessing."]

---

[The vision ends and then shows Ukitake sitting in his room, smiling peacefully, though a little sadly at what he has just seen. And then he turns off the Dreamberry.]

Dream Effects: Pain, a feeling of overwhelming failure and helplessness. Optional.
Warnings: Violence! And spoilers for chapter 364.

[The first feeling to register in Ukitake's mind is pain. Excruciating pain. The world around him is fuzzy, blurring in and out between darkness and light. And when he finally manages to move his head (or lets it fall, he isn't sure which is truth), he sees a bloody hand sticking out of his chest.

Sticking. Out of his chest.

But just as quickly as he sees it, it retreats back, leaving him with a hole, a wound that should be impossible to heal. Blood pours out, he can hear his heart pounding in his ears in a panicked rage, and then he's falling. Falling from his stance in the sky, the wind rushing by him, but he doesn't comprehend it.

But he does look up to see his killer in one moment. A floppy grin adorns his face, as if he is a child who has gleefully proven his power over an old toy, one he no longer wants to play with.

And that is the last sight Ukitake actually remembers, even before landing on the rubble below, face-down with his hair fanned out angelically, almost mockingly of his occupation. A god of death defeated.

Defeated and facing his own death at the hands of a child.]

---

[Ukitake wakes up with a gasp, grasping at his chest as the dream catches up to him, just a moment later.

And then the coughing starts, a need to rid himself of the stress the memory brings back. Only it doesn't go away. He coughs and coughs into his hand, and soon enough, blood is visible in his palm, and it just gets worse. Coughing, hacking, hair falling in curtains around his face.

He can't even turn off the Dreamberry.]

Dream 002

Warnings: Character death, confusion? Not canon at all.
Dream Effects: (Optional) Fear and worry, ending with sadness.

[A bolt of lightning splits the darkened sky, the resounding crack making Ukitake cringe and falter as he runs along the beach toward the tumultuous waves, rain pelting his face. Only it is questionable if this is Ukitake. His face is the same, if a little younger and smoother, but his hair…

Is black.

Caring not for any of these details, he continues to run, losing his geta in the soaked sand along the way. He is worried, terrified, and as he gets closer to the crashing waves, a faint cry is heard. From the ocean. Without even a thought, he dives in, fighting the waves trying to carry the voice away from him, trying to usher him back to shore. But he urges himself on, desperate to reach whoever is on the other side of the watery expanse.

The scene continues like this for a few minutes, but Ukitake finally makes it to the other person, struggling so hard to keep their head above the water. It’s a woman, and Ukitake uses all his strength to pull her to him and get her back to the shore.

It is a hard trip, the outgoing waves stalling their progress so much, pushing them back toward the great, wide beyond. Eventually, they get closer and Ukitake lets up just a little bit, sure that they are home free.

Except another wave sweeps in and separates them, pushing the woman toward the shore, but pulling Ukitake back with it. Back into the cold, empty ocean. His hands reach up, fingers painfully outstretched, hoping to grasp onto anything that will bring him back. But nothing is there to save him.

“Jyuushirou!” That woman’s voice is shrill with terror, floating across the distance to his ears when he happens to be above the water. “Jyuushirou, no!” But he knows she’s safe and that is all that matters.

That’s all that matters.

With his strength waning, Ukitake gives a final effort to reach the shore again, but fails as another wave pushes him under the water. And eventually, even his long arms feel the rain, the air no more. He is completely submerged, sinking quickly and unable to return to the living.

Ukitake Jyuushirou feels his body crushed by the pressure of the unrelenting sea and drowns, his eyes watching as the water engulfs him and doesn’t give him back.]

---

[Ukitake wakes with a gasp, shortly followed by coughing, but nothing serious. It's just surprise. He shakily sits up in bed and pushes the cocoon of blankets away from him, feeling smothered. He takes a few seconds to get his quickened breathing under control and looks over to see the Dreamberry recording. He sighs and quickly turns it off.

But it is obvious that his hair is still white in Somarium, unlike his dream self.]
Warnings: Headcanon? It is a vile thing, apparently. *curses Kubo Tite* And, uh, tl;dr. Wow. Oops.
Dream Effects: A sense of calm and peace, relaxed happiness.

[Home. Ukitake stands outside of his estate, nothing too fancy, but still pretty impressive, a large bag slung over his shoulder. He sighs, happily, and makes his way up the stairs and through the door where he sets down his bag, taking off his waraji quickly to set by the door.

It's quiet. Too quiet. And yet...

He cocks his head to the side and presses a finger to his lips. "I can hear you breathing, Gorou." And then, after a moment, there's a giggle and a young, dark-haired boy sticks his head into the entrance hall, grinning before he runs to Ukitake. The older man smiles in turn and kneels, holding his arms open for the oncoming hug, which happens momentarily.

"Nii-san!" the boy exclaims, clinging to Ukitake.

The older man laughs and hugs Gorou back, happy to have this moment. But then he pulls away. "Where is everyone else? Surely they haven't gotten lost in the house."

Gorou shakes his head, still grinning. "Don't know you're here yet. Can I tell them?" He seems to be very excited at the prospect.

Ukitake nods. "Spread the word!" As Gorou runs off, announcing in a loud, child's voice that "Nii-san is here!", Ukitake stands back up and dusts off his knees, even though the floor isn't dirty. And soon enough, a stampede of siblings makes their way to Ukitake's location, faces lit up with smiles and excitement as he is enveloped in a hug by...

"Only five?" He looks to a woman, who seems to be a little older than the young crew around his waist, though they vary in ages, as well. "And you, of course, nee-san."

She nods. "Taiki is out, once again, trying to woo a certain lady. I told him you'd be here soon, but he was adamant about this woman."

Ukitake shakes his head, ruffling dark hair all around him, his own white hair a stark contrast. "It's no matter. He is enjoying life. I want him to." He looks back to his younger siblings, then points to his bag. "I brought you all presents! And if you're really good, I might just share some candy." Happy noises erupt all around and they run to the bag, searching for gifts with their respective names on them.

His sister watches them, arms crossed over her chest. "Jyuushirou...may I speak to you in private?"

"Of course, Umeko."

The scene changes and Ukitake and Umeko are in a garden, the sakura trees nearly in full bloom. "Is everything all right, Umeko?"

She looks to a tree, watching as the breeze causes some petals to fall. "I'm not a child anymore. "I always knew you would grow up, though that doesn't make accepting it any easier." He turns to look at her again, her face still hidden. "But you are you and I always knew you wouldn't be a child forever." He rests his hand on her shoulder. "You...are Ukitake Ume and I recognize that."

Umeko, now Ume, raises her head, smiling, and hugs Ukitake, her laughter ringing throughout the garden.]

[Ukitake doesn't wake up at first, but the Dreamberry catches him smiling in his sleep. Nor do I remember such a place being in Seireitei.

[This man has a deep, soothing voice, and though he is in a new place, he seems to be taking it calmly. He does, however, scratch his head in confusion as he looks around at his surroundings.]

I can’t feel anyone nearby. That is disconcerting. I hope this isn’t one of Aizen’s illusions…

But that’s impossible, he’s been sealed away. He’s not a threat anymore.

[He looks back down to the Dreamberry with a sigh.]

I really should ask the young ones how to use these in more detail. Heh, but there’s no time like the present to learn!

[So he sets his face in determination and begins to press buttons, accidentally turning it off.]
