Hello ladies, I bring for you a picspam! It's a bit late to post this since it's already February, but I'm doing it anyway because I can, hurhur.

5. Skins Series 5

After losing 2 generations of awesome, rebellious teenagers, I'm more used to seeing new faces. Just from the first episode, it's got such a happy, carefree vibe which reminds me of S1 (which I adore!) and I'm already starting to pick my favourite characters. I do hope they break out the stereotype of "Oh, she's the bitchy one" and "Here's the cool guy who makes everything okay!" I think we're in good hands though and I'm definitely looking forward to what Series 5 brings, especially after the dismal Series 4 finale.

4. Community Season 2

I love Community with all my heart, it gave me one of my favourite female characters of all time - Britta Perry. So far, we're Mid-Season and to be honest, it hasn't been smooth sailing and there's been quite alot of disappointing episodes for me. I really like how ambitious the show tries to be, but sometimes it just falls short and I feel a bit like...meh. I still love this show dearly, Pierce's antics are always amusing and I'm totally for scenes with Jeff shirtless/with wet t-shirt. BUT The next half of Season 2 better be amazing...ok, homeslice?

3. Modern Family Season 2

I like how Modern Family slowly creeps its way into my heart and then BAM! I'm in love. It's like how my favourite couple in Season 1 was Cameron & Mitchell but now, I feel the Dunphies should deserve this title. I can see how Claire was won over by Phil's goofiness and I think I am too. The first half of the season has been pretty great, there's not a single episode I really hate. This show almost always delivers and I expect nothing but greatness for the Dunphy-Pritchett-Tuckers.

2. Parks & Recreation Season 3

When Season 1 was over, I felt a bit iffy about Ben and Chris but already two episodes in, and I'm head over heels for them. Especially Ben. How can someone make falling in love so adorabe??? I'm totally excited about the Ben/Leslie romantic arc this season and Andy/April too, of course. The amazing thing about Parks & Rec is that I love every single character, usually I can get a bit iffy about certain characters on shows (like Cook or Abed) but I really love everyone. From Ron Fucking Swanson to April and even Jerry, they're all extremely dear to me.

1. Doctor Who Series 6

As if I could be any less predictable, my number 1 has to be Doctor Who. ~~Even with the horrible Cold Blood two-parter,~~ I absolutely adore Series 5, it had so many brilliant episodes like Amy's Choice, Vincent and the Doctor, The Eleventh Hour etc. I feel more inclined towards Moffat's writing, he doesn't belittle any of the characters for the sake of the storyline or whatever (which I felt was Russell T Davies' greatest flaw). One part for me also aches for 11, I miss his "hair of a factory", his long limbs and his clumsinesss. And don't get me started on Amy Pond - SHE. IS. THE. GREATEST. Series 6 looks superb and exciting, I mean, look - Neil Gaiman! America! River Song! It's just...WOW.

HELLO! I'm back from some unplanned hiatus, I wanted to update with icons but I realised I haven't updated magicmachine for an even longer time so here you go:

Some notes regarding
- ICONS: This batch is pretty old, like the Billie Piper icons were from a half-done challenge from December as well as some incomplete 20in20 submissions. I know, I'm horrible. The only recent ones are the Parks & Rec ones, I kinda realize they're from the same scene/hosptial setting so the colouring's kinda similar which blows but I really love this episode like crazy mad.
- NEXT UPDATE: I have some light blob textures! Here's a sneak preview ;) I'm almost done with them, so expect a texture update by end of the week. Also, I'm super glad that ppl actually like my textures I have over 200 downloads WHOA thanks so much guys :D
- 2011: To that person who requested a blending tutorial I'm very very sorry but I don't that's possible :( I'm moving to a different country/CONTINENT next week as I embark on my journey to ~university life~ so I'll be pretty swamped :/ I'm not too sure if I'll even have time to icon anymore, I'm hardly online these days. So I can't guarantee regular updates, but I'll try my best.

tutorial 01: sherlock & moriarty

Oh wow, I'm ridiculously late with this tutorial but rl's gotten a bit crazy. My laptop screen isn't working well, it keeps on having double vision it's driving me insane. The colours are all weird so I won't be making icons for a while :/ Hopefully I'll get it fixed in the next few days and I'll be able to complete the challenges I'm currently in. I really hope so!

Anyway, the lovely library_of_sex requested for a tutorial for this icon from this batch and here it finally is!

I'm going to skip the blending parts cos this is more of a colouring tutorial. If you're interested in how I blended them, let me know! FYI, these blending tutorials are awesome too: 1 and 2.

1. Start with your base layer. The caps I used here are mine, but killcolor is a good place for Sherlock caps too.

Duplicate your base layer, set to Soft Light. Sharpen if necessary.

2. Now it's too dark, duplicate your base layer again, set to Screen. Drag to the top.

3. I don't like the blue-ish tones Moriarty has, I'm leaning towards warmer tones. So, I set a new Curves layer with these settings:
RGB
1st dot - Input 173, Output 196
2nd dot - Input 14, Output 5
Red
1st dot - Input 156, Output 202
2nd dot - Input 76, Output 114
3rd dot - Input 11, Output 23
Green
1st dot - Input 197, Output 168
2nd dot - Input 158, Output 144
3rd dot - Input 108, Output 99
Blue
1st dot - Input 168, Output 126

Now my icon looks like this:

4. I want to bring out more of that gorgeous yellow, so I place a new Color Balance layer with these settings:

5.I think Moriarty looks a bit pale so I add a new Hue/Saturation layer with these settings:

6. I'm really digging the yellow so I set a new Selective Color layer with these settings:
Yellow
Cyan +14, Magenta +11, Yellow +100, Black +6
Whites
Black -100
Rest are all set to 0

Now my icon looks like this:

7. Every time when I'm done with the technical stuff, I always set a new Diffuse Glow layer. So I stamp visible (Shift+Ctrl+Alt+E) and then, Filter > Diffuse Glow. I always keep Graininess at a 0 and I play with the Glow Amount and Clear Amount. I chose some blue-ish colour for this.

I set to soft Light at 51%.

8. The icon's too dark now so I put some light blobs using a brush tool, at white, Gaussian Blur etc. and set to Soft Light. I lower the opacity to 84%. It's still too dark so I add vertical blobs (which I learnt from here). I place the 2 layers of light blobs below the Diffuse Glow layer.

9. This following layers are above the Diffuse Glow layer. I want to emphasize the dark colours of Moriarty's suit and the background, so I set a new fill layer #AFD9FC, set to Color Burn. I lowered the opacity at 28%.

10. I want to bring out the yellow more, so I add some yellow blobs (#FFED07) on a new layer and set to Soft Light, 100% opacity. I do this again, now to 63%.

11. Ok, I'm almost done. Bear with me! The icon still looks a bit flat to me, so I add a new gradient (by whom? I'm so sorry I completely forgot!) and set to Soft Light. Using the layer mask, I erase the part covering Moriarty's face.

12. I add this texture by innocent_lexys and set to Linear Burn. The bottom of the icon looked kinda naked, so I duplicate the texture and Flip Vertical. Lower the opacity to 46%.

13. Add text and you're done! For the original icon, I flipped the canvas horizontal cos I had too many icons with Sherlock facing left :P

YAY!

Hullo, apparently I have some 20in20 icons due next week and a tutorial to write but I'm quite good at prioritizing so here's some large textures! :)

I scanned these various paper textures one day after getting a new scanner! Yes, my life is that exciting ;) Anyway, They're of various sizes (biggest - 2300x1619 and smallest - 662x778) cos I have a thing for large things ~~(that's what she said)~~ I hope you'll find them useful!

Like as if I need a reason to icon Sherlock, here's my entry for sherlock20in20. I'm more of a Sherlock/John shipper and Moriarty was only in two scenes, so his images were quite limited. But I honestly adore Moriarty and I actually started meddling with icons before the themes & info were even out :P This is the longest I've spent on just 20 icons but I'm really pleased with the outcome! I think you can tell I went a bit crazy with the animation and also how limited my blending capabilities are but I can't help constantly using Cumberbatch's side profile (perfect bone structure - hello?!)

endlessly; a sherlock/john mix

I want to kill myself sometimes - I did not learn from my mistake and still started with the cover art first before the music. It was surprisingly easier to compile this mix compared to my previous who one. I think it's cos I'm going through an obsessive phase (I'm re-watching the entire BBC series and currently reading The Hound of the Baskervilles).

I realised with just 7 songs, my current mixes are more like EPs :P I think if I added more songs, it'd just be for the sake of having more songs rather than a good, decent bite-sized mix.

I adore the ~~friendship~~ underlying homoerotic tension between Sherlock & John, it's like a tug-of-war and they're awfully dependent on each other without even knowing it. The songs I've selected are from either Sherlock or John's view on themselves, each other and the lovely relationship they share. Enjoy!

intertwined; a doctor who mix

Normal people make mixes starting with the music and leave the cover art for later. I did it the other way around :/ I was really inspired by vetica ’s inception soundtrack (so pretty!) I wanted to create a cover art almost immediately and left the music for last. NEVER AGAIN.

I started this fan mix more Eleven/Amy-ish in mind then Rory slowly crept in (as he normally does hurhur) and now, it’s more of a relationship-esque mix between the Tardis Trio. Series Five has been quite an emotional rollercoaster and I think this mix represents that. It’s full of longing, misunderstandings, regrets, love etc. I spent days preparing this mix and I think it’s a major improvement from my very first mix.

Wow, an icon post! In case you can't tell, I'm experimenting with some blending, I'm just at the beginning stages so don't shoot me! But ugh, my cropping is terrible. I'm real lousy so I just end up doing the boring center crop. Will definitely be working on that. From this batch, it's pretty obvious I watch way too much tv and icon too little. But yay a new fandom - SHERLOCK! Benedict Cumberbatch is stunning to icon. And yes, his name is better than yours.

As They Slip Away; an eleven & amy mix

hi, ok i'm pretty bad at updating but i do have some new icons in store especially from the new Who series but for now here's a fan mix.

well I made this fanmix from the Doctor's perspective about how he feels about Amy. I think he does have affection for her, and it really has shown in the past episodes. The Doctor treasures Amy alot, and he truly loves her but not really romantically, more like a kind, protective love. It shows the emotions he has towards her - affection, love, guilt - and the feelings he possesses as well - a sense of adventure, regret etc. I think it's quite a dark mix overall, since the Doctor is a pretty dark character with lots of complex feelings.

I hope this mix make sense and feel free to intepret it any way you want, and please enjoy :)

So hey guys i'm back with some icons to share :)

I feel that i've produced pretty decent results though tbh after a while i'd hate it and go fiddle with it again. i've tried messing around with texts which i hardly ever do (as you can see some have failed but some's ok i hope!), textures, diff. colours, b&w, light blobs, negative space, blending & smudging tools. i hope i didn't overdo some of the colours eek eek but i think i'm fairly proud of my 1st batch in 1 year +++ it caused quite a bit of sleepless nights but i thoroughly enjoyed it :D :D :D

I hope i can get my groove back soon but anyways i love all my fandoms very much if not why put so much relentless effort in it hahaha

9/10/2013 Note: I have currently stopped making icons for a while, but I still make graphics (though very rarely). If you would like to request for icons - please go for it! I would be really keen to. So just message me on LJ, or you could even check out my tumblr (I'm a lot more active there). Hope you've all been well xx.

So as of today, lipburst is solely used for graphics only and perhaps occasional mixes, gifs or picspams. I used to make icons for a while then I stopped. But here I am, back again. I still love my fandoms and I've also hopped on to some new ones. I hope you enjoy my icons it sure was fun making them and I think I can kinda remember the basic things for iconage right over here~
