bottom_draco has posted the reveal of the fairytale fest. My submission is The Cursed Wood (link goes to the comm).

I'd like to give my most sincere thanks to my wonderful betas, jamie2109 and calanthe_fics. Thank you so much for helping me out with the words and to give the story its life. Without your help I wouldn't have felt confident enough to put out the story. And thank you raitala, calanthe_fics, themostepotente, and jtsbbsps_dk for rec-cing The Cursed Wood. Knowing that you liked my little story well enough to recommend it in your journal really makes all the Sundays I spent at my desk worthwhile.

It felt strangely reminiscing seeing my art posted and receiving comments, after having disappeared from fandom for a while. Sometimes I wish I were more energetic and could work on art before/after work during workdays, but it seems that I lack the willpower. Now I hardly read any hd fic, and even though I check out art, most of the time I skip the multi-paneled ones. It's sad but true that RL can take away things you once enjoyed so much. I regret that I have not participated as much as I should, especially when people taking the time to write me comments and me not doing it at all, but creating art has somehow become a very consuming task, and getting myself emotionally involved in good stories of my otp is sometimes too tiring. I only hope someday I could be involved like I used to.

The Cursed Wood is intended to be a fairytale for adult. I've pondered about different possibilities, but ended up having Draco make the most responsible decision - by breaking the curse, he gets his social status, his father's approval, and wet dreams that he gets to dream every night, without consequences. Which I think is for the best, and is sometimes what we are all expected to do, although doing so might just be another curse, self-imposed, I donno. Or maybe it's not too bad an idea to do what makes us happiest and not what's best, and maybe people would accept and the world wouldn't care.

Or maybe I'm repressed and should seek professional help. ;-) Often times what I draw does reflect what's currently in my mind, although I truly wish it weren't true. *is scared* Anyhow, that's the premise of The Cursed Wood - i.e. me seeking professional help. *grins*

As for the art, I think I have kind of given up and did a mediocre job towards the end. I didn't draw them in order, so the ones lacking effort were those in the middle, from naked!Harry in bed to the almost-kiss scene. I would have reworked that almost-kiss scene (and the Draco being eaten scene, and also the very last one) if my enthusiasm hadn't gone vacationing.

I did rework the ramshackle pic, though. It was pointed out to me by my wonderful beta (thank you Cal ♥) that the original didn't fit the scene. So here's the original, for your viewing pleasure.

So I saw frayach posting her last final ficlet before going to bed ~~last night~~ this morning at about 2am. And I clicked on the lj cut. Bad decision.

I should have known that her fics kill sleep, regardless of length. The last time I checked my cellphone it was 4:32am.

I woke up before 7. The first thing I thought about when I became conscious was "must draw h and d on hillside". So here it is:

It's a pity that the artist decided to stop further exploring the characters in other stories.

アルスラーン戦記 [The Heroic Legend of Arslan] (田中芳樹)	ダリューン[Daryoon] x アルスラーン[Arslan] (Master-servant)	I'm such a fangirl of Master-servant ship. This is no exception, not especially when the top is the knight and the bottom is the pretty prince ♥
いとしのリリー (栗本薫)	ケン[Ken] x リリー[Lily] (Gender confusion, canon)	My first slash original manga (not completed, and never will) is based on this book. The story is about a girl engaged to Jyou, who is the son and heir of a hospital chief director. Later she discovers that Jou is a handsome doctor by day, but a beautiful woman working at a club at night, and is in love with his/her high-school class mate, Ken. Ken wants Jou to be freed from his psychotic disorder and lead a normal life, and yet by doing so he will lose his Lily forever. It is the saddest multiple personality fic I've ever read. I knew of the book in the old ジュネ magazine when I was a high-schooler. I read the premise, felt in love with it, designed the characters, and tossed the work away during the cross-country move. I didn't get my hands on it until many years later, in a used Japanese bookstore in West Vancouver, Canada. It felt like destiny to rediscover the book again.
輝夜姫[Princess Kaguya] (清水玲子)	サットン[Sutton] x ミラー[Miller] (Comrade, unrequited, canon)	It's fun watching Sutton getting confused about his feelings all the time. He's destined to love Akira(Princess Kaguya) and he acknowledges that. Nevertheless, he can't ignore his attraction toward Miller, who is supposed to be his love rival. Shimizu-sensei makes this ship both funny and sexy. It's sad that Sutton's feeling is never returned, and at the end he has no memories of Miller. But I suppose it's the best for him this way.
源氏[Genji] (高河ゆん)	空也[Kuuya] x 清盛[Kiyomori] (Master-servant)	I love this ship for the fact that Kuuya will probably never get a chance, as Kiyomori only has eyes on Yorimoto. All Kuuya can do is to stay away and protect his lord/love from far behind, while hiding his feelings toward his master.
ここはグリーンウッド[Here's Greenwood] (那州雪絵)	池田光流[Mitsuru Ikeda] x 手塚忍[Shinobu Teduka] (Partners, friends)	I started shipping this ship from my teenage days, so whenever I mention it the good old memories would come back - memories of the Japanese bookstore I used to frequent, the translation manga rental store I visited every Friday after school, of myself wearing school uniform going to these places... Anyway, I still have a lot of love for Mitsuru and Shinobu senpai, and the mysterious Mitsuru x Shinobu doujinshi that Nasu-sensei made 10+ years ago is still on my list of most-wanted items.
ゴッドチャイルド[Cain Series/GodChild] (由貴香織里)	リフ[Riff] x カイン[Cain] (Master-servant)	Cain Series is the reason why I read Angel Santuary and other works of the manga artist, and it might be the only work of hers that I love. I love the bond between Cain and Riff, the psychological dependence for the other's existence - Cain being the master, needing to be served by his servant; and Riff the servant needing to serve his master. It's almost like a constantly changing dom/sub dynamic.
残酷な神が支配する (萩尾望都)	イアン[Ian] x ジェルミ[Jeremy] (Siblings, canon)	Ian's alpha-maleness plus Jeremy's fragility makes them the perfect couple. Loves.
セイント星矢[Saint Seiya] (車田正美)	一輝[Ikki] x 瞬[Shun] (Siblings)	This is my very first ship. I remember shipping them because Shun looked very much like a girl, and the brotherly love between him and Ikki is so ridiculous that I could only understand/accept it as romantic love.
	一輝[Ikki] x シャカ[Shaka] (Pass enemies, Now mentor)	This was never a very popular ship. I shipped it for Shaka's long eyelashes and the fact that Ikki defeated him by embracing him with his body full of white-hot burning cosmos.
	アイオロス[Aioros] x サガ[Saga] (Comrades, betrayal)	Oh this ship was so appealing - evil!Saga killed Aioros to hide his identity and good!Saga bore the guilt for life. Schizophrenic!Saga is hot ♥ And they're the two most powerful Gold Saints. What can be hotter than two powerful men doing each other?
絶愛 - 1989[Zetusai 1989] (尾崎南)	南條晃司[Kouji Nanjyou] x 泉拓人[Takuto Izumi] (Idol, sportsman, canon)	Oh this, this is the bible of all angst slash. I only wish Osaka-sensei ended the series right there.
Death Note デスノート (大場つぐみ・小畑健)	L/月[Light] (Rivals, betrayal)	To this date I still think that L lost because his love for Light clouded his mind, and my slash-rotten brain also thinks that Light didn't know how much L meant to him even after killing L himself. I like the original manga version three times better than the anime because I feel the anime is trying to lighten up the theme by being unnecessarily sympathetic, but the anime is three times more slashy, so it's a draw.
天使禁猟区[Angel Sanctuary] (由貴香織里)	カタン[Katan] x ロシエル[Rociel] (Master-servant)	I think the manga-artist is really really good at doing this master/servant kind of bonding ship. I would have liked it better if the story-telling didn't rely so much on flashbacks and conversations/monologues explicitly explaining things, but I'm satisfied just by Katan/Rociel. And the way this particular ship ended was just absolutely perfect - made me want to thank the artist.
鋼の錬金術師[Fullmetal Alchemist] (荒川弘)	アルフォンス[Alphonse] x エドワード[Edward] (Siblings)	Oh I love this ship so much - it's got incest, younger-brother(Al) top, tragic past, and jealousy for a past dead lover (Heiderich). I would have drawn Doujinshi for this pairing if I hadn't had H/D. BTW, the feminized Ed (with boobs) never fails to make me nauseous.
BASTARD!! -暗黒の破壊神- (萩原一至)	ダークシュナイダー[Dark Schneider] x カル＝ス[Kal=su] (Rivals, mentor)	I've heard rumors that Hagiwara-sensei put slash-suggestive scenes in the story (tankobon 12) to attract female readers and to increase sales. Whether it's true or not, it definitely worked for me. I was OMG obsessed. I've drawn numerous portraits of Kal and created many scenarios of him and Dark Schneider in my rotten head. I can still remember some of the lines Kal said in those slashy scenes, and it's almost twenty years ago. This pairing has been great initiative in my study of the Japanese language, and I'm thankful. :-)
ファイナルファンタジーVII [Final Fantasy VII] (Square Enix)	セフィロス[Sephiroph] x クラウド[Cloud] (Rivals, mentor)	Basically the ship is because I love angst and handsome, powerful men in an unspeakable love and hate affair. FF 7 being an awesome game is a huge plus.
日出処の天子[Emperor of the Land of the Rising Sun] (山岸凉子)	毛人[Emishi] x 厩戸王子[UmayadonoOuji] (Master-servant, canon)	I feel very, very sorry for Umayado at the end, giving up his emotion entirely to stop his ache for Emishi. And I want to strangle Emishi to death - this dumbass playing with Umayado's feeling without even noticing. Dumbass.
秘密トップ・シークレット[Top Secret] (清水玲子)	青木一行[Kazuyuki Aoki] x 薪剛[Tsuyoshi Maki] (Superior-subordinate)	I'm sure Shimizu-sensei put all those slashy scenes deliberately. Like, the hand-holding, the embrace in the hospital, Maki's reaction to Miyoshi's confrontation about Suzuki and Aoki... just the physical closeness is too abnormal to be interpreted as ordinary. Slash fans of the series (myself included) will be dancing of joy if Shimizu-sensei decided to do it. Please do it, Shimizu-sensei!
変 (奥浩哉)	鈴木[Suzuki] x 佐藤[Sato] (Gender confusion, canon)	It's fun to read Suzuki's never-ending chase for Sato, who is unfortunately very straight. I hope Suzuki would eventually win Sato's heart.
炎の蜃気楼[Mirage of Blaze] (桑原水菜)	直江[Naoe] x 高耶[Takaya] (Master-servent, canon)	This is the epitome of yaoi IMO. Let's see what we have here: obsession, rejection, rape, jealousy, possessiveness,　double suicide, unrequited love, unconditional love, undying/ever-lasting love, unquestionable loyalty and dedication... It's got almost all yaoi elements in one ship. No wonder it's so popular. I was into this ship for quite a while, but stopped following the series because it kept going on and on and on (just like Zetsuai). The last book came out years before I noticed - I was afraid it would end like those unconvincing happy-ever-after ~~trash~~ thing, but was glad that it didn't turn out like that.
魔動王グランゾート[Mad? King Granzort]	大地[Daichi] x ラビ[Rabi] (Comrades, friends)	I began shipping this ship because my favorite Doujinshi circle wrote them, and it still remains one of my all-time favorite ship. It's even a bit like the way I see Harry/Draco.
らき☆すた[Lucky Star] (美水かがみ)	柊かがみ[Kagami Hiiragi] / 泉こなた[Konata Izumi] (Friends)	This might be the only femslash I truly ship. Normally Japanese femslash is very heavy on the pwp porn side, but for this ship there are a few Doujinshi circles that produce quality non-porn fanwork.
The Administration Series (Francis Manna)	Valantin Toreth / Keir Warrick (Friends with benefit)	This is my current obsession. I think the reason I like it so much is because I'm in love with Toreth.
Harry Potter Series (J.K.Rowling)	Harry Potter / Draco Malfoy (Rivals)	This is the ship I did the most fanwork for. My shipping tendency is heavily influenced by its community - I've read excellent fanfics and received a lot of support from other shippers, which fueled my own creativity. Recently I haven't been reading any H/D fic or drawing art for the pairing, for I found that the images I have for H/D seems to have been diverted from the current mainstream. I still love this ship very much, and I look forward to the day when my passion comes back. I find myself unable to get into the Japanese fandom for this ship, or for any hp ship at all, 'cuz I hate it when all the bottoms cry at some point in the stories, which seems to be often the case for Japanese HP Doujinshis.
Harry Potter Series (J.K.Rowling)	Sirius Black / Remus Lupin (Friends)	This is the first hp ship I got myself involved in the LJ community, and my participation ended when Sirius died in book 5. I wonder if I would keep participating if Siries hadn't died. Maybe. Maybe not.

luci0logy and I are planning to create a fandom comm for Manna Francis (manna)'s The Administration Series. It would be fun to have a place for fans of the series to post fanworks, share common obsession, and squee together. I'm very excited about the project. :-D

We still haven't decided on the specifics yet, and here's what I imagine the comm would be like:

- Members can post anything related to The Administration Series - discussions, fanwork, etc. - either directly to the comm, or members can post a link to the comm which goes to their personal LJ entries.
- Fanwork of all characters and all pairings (het/slash/femslash/gen) is welcomed. Shippers of all pairings are welcomed.
- Fanwork posts will be asked to provide proper information (e.g. pairings, genre) and warnings (e.g. ratings).
- Posts unrelated to The Administration Series, and posts heavy on self-promotion/profit-making will be axed.
- Absolutely no flames are allowed. Flamers will be exorcised.

About community settings:
- Explicit adult content
- Moderated membership; Requirements:
(a) Either an age statement has to be somewhere on user profile, or user sends message containing an age statement to the mods.
(b) User journal and profile bio must have content.
- All members can post; no mod approval is required before posting;
- Mods reserve the right to ban any user

I'd like the comm to be a cozy place for us to talk, share, and squee. I want to try my best to make it stress-free, wank-free, and flame-free. We can even do fun things like holiday exchanges and celebrate Toreth and Warrick's birthdays ♥ It will be fun!

I have a few question and I was wondering if you could offer me any suggestions:
1. What do you think about age restriction and moderated membership? For sure it would steer away a few people from joining, but I thought it'd be better to play safe, even if it means fewer members.
2. Is there any Newbie Guide to Moderating LJ Community (or something similar) somewhere out there that you could point me to?
3. Is there anything in the above comm rules and setting that I've missed out?

Setting up and maintaining a community is a huge undertaking, and I'd like to do it right. Any kind of advice you could offer would be appreciated. Thank you!

Extra-fine grain, hot-pressed watercolor paper anyone?

The kind of watercolor paper I've been using (Sennelier Watercolor Blocks - hot-pressed, 140lbs, extra fine grain) is no longer being imported to Japan. *sighs* Which left me with only two choices:

1. Fabriano 300g extra fine grain

2. Arches 300g extra fine grain

There isn't much choice about hot-pressed watercolor paper, and both are equally expensive. If you have any experience with the above papers, could you please let me know what you feel about them?

Or, if you know any online art supply stores that carries Sennelier hot-pressed and ships overseas without charging huge amount for shipping fee, please, please let me know?

I haven't been following the Japanese fandom for a long time. Recently I came across some Japanese fanwork genres that I've never heard of, so I'd like to share:

- ムキショタ(muki-shota) - this combines the word ムキムキ(mukimuki) - meaning muscular - with the word shota. I guess it's shota featuring muscular small boys? :-S
- 女装ショタ(Jyoso-shota) - the word Jyoso means to dress as a woman. So I guess it's about small boys wearing girl's uniform? Not sure either.
- ふたなり(futanari) - basically the word describes someone having both sets of male and female sexual organs, but I'm not sure how specific it gets "down there".

I can somehow imagine how Jyoso-shota and futanari can be intriguing, but muki-shota is too hard for me to form a picture to see the appeal.

I think it would be fun to make a quiz out of these fandom genres and perhaps specific terms (e.g. リバ, 誘い受, ドＳ, ドM etc), but the problem is that I don't think I know the meaning of a lot of them. :-)
