The MacBook Neo: A First-Time Mac Journey
I’ve finally crossed the threshold. After years of being an “iPhone-only” Apple user, I’ve added a MacBook Neo to my desk.
I’ll admit, I was skeptical about leaving my usual dev environment, but I absolutely love this machine. The hardware is incredible.

Today we were reminded of what it feels like to not be cold all the time. 17°C, glorious sunshine. Sound of birds chirping in the park. Faint noises of spring slowly edging towards us.

Listened to “This Music May Contain Hope” over the weekend. Raye’s absolutely smashed it. Bold, vibrant, decadent and so much depth. This is going to be on hard rotation for a while. 🎵

I went for my lunchtime two-mile walk today without listening to music, audiobook or podcast, opting instead for the natural sound of everything going on around me. Oddly enough, I found it to be far more invigorating than doing otherwise, even with all the car traffic.

People aren’t picking up crochet hooks to be productive. They’re picking them up to breathe. If you teach crafts, you’re in the wellness business whether you call it that or not. Lean into it. 🌿 #CraftEducator #MindfulMaking #HandmadeHeals

I had to put up quite a fight to snap this pic. There’s something beautifully prehistoric about it. We domesticated wolves, and somehow they domesticated us right back. A 40,000-year-old partnership now expressed as: “Let me bite your face while you hold me.” The strange tenderness of evolution.

I just finished reading: Shu Ha Ri by Richard Griffiths @writingslowly
I liked how short it was. I think it would fit in well with other books from Tracy Durnell’s In praise of the hundred page idea.

Really, what I’m asking is: Don’t you think our contemporary education system has long needed an overhaul? That our society has long needed to reconfigure itself? That we need to stop ascribing all our meaning and purpose to being a Web Designer, or Coal Miner, or Airplane Engine Factory Foreman, or Accountant, but instead to being A Good Person, Good Parent, Good Friend, Curious Researcher, Poet, Meditator, Facilitator, or any number of other Ways of Being uncoupled from “work” as we’ve defined it since the industrial revolution?

Since we’re talking music, go listen to Gorillaz’s new masterpiece, ”The Mountain”, you’ve been missing out if you hadn’t until now!

I’m trying a new approach to blogging. I’ve got 3 micro.blog’s which can cross post to Bluesky and/or Mastodon if I want. This seems a more coherent way to handle my existence on multiple platforms.
Time will tell if it’s any better than what I’ve had before.

Well this from O. Westin’s Micro SF/F Mastodon account is the most affecting 323-character sci-fi story I’ve ever seen.
I grant you one wish," the magic fish said.
“To eat my mother’s pancakes again, just like when I was a child.”
“Are you sure?”
“You think it frivolous?”
“No. But to grant it I must send you back to the child you were, with no adult memories.”
“Would my life change?”
“You ask that every time.”
(h/t Robb Knight)
Admittedly it’s the only sci-fi story I can ever remember seeing with 323 characters - but even if it wasn’t I think it’d probably still be top.
In other short stories that...

🎨 Been fascinated with Jeremiah Goodman’s gorgeous paintings, especially the “garden in hell"— which was the living room of former Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Diana Vreeland. Her eclectic home has inspired an abundance of beautiful derivative works. See attached photos for examples.

Finished Re-reading: Neuromancer by William Gibson 📚
It’s still incredible to read just how many futuristic things Gibson accurately described way back in 1984 but the accuracy that stood out most in this read is how thoroughly wealth can destroy peoples' humanity.

It’s never been a strict routine or a strategy. It’s just been a part of daily life, like going to the gym. And just like working out, writing blog posts gets a lot easier if you do it regularly.
Traduzindo livremente:
“Nunca foi uma rotina rígida ou uma estratégia. Simplesmente faz parte do dia a dia, como ir à academia. E assim como se exercitar, escrever posts para o blog fica muito mais fácil se você fizer isso regularmente.”
É um dos meus objetivos com esse blog, buscar uma regularidade de publicação, mas sem pressão.
