What is Lillian's List?
At Lillian’s List, we’re building a future where progressive women lead. We recruit, train, and support pro-choice champions who are ready to run for office and fight for reproductive freedom and gender equity in North Carolina.
We prepare women with the tools, training, and strategy they need to launch successful campaigns. We provide critical financial support to our endorsed candidates running for the General Assembly, Council of State, and state judiciary.

Who Was Lillian?
Lillian Exum Clement was a trailblazer, shattering barriers as the first woman elected to the North Carolina General Assembly, and the first woman to serve in any state legislature in the South. In 1920, at just 26 years old, she boldly entered the political arena, defeating two male opponents in the Democratic primary before women even had the right to vote nationwide.
Unapologetically determined, Clement declared: “I want to blaze a trail for other women. I know that years from now there will be many other women in politics, but you have to start a thing.” Her legacy continues to inspire, proving that when women lead, history is made.
