The Lignite Energy Council recently provided scholarships to seven students. One of them received the $1,000 Burgess Scholarship that is awarded through the North Dakota Community Foundation (NDCF). This scholarship was set up to honor the late Jeff Burgess, who was the research and development manager for the Lignite Energy Council when he was killed in an automobile accident in 2009.
This year’s recipient was the eighth senior from a Bismarck Public School to receive the scholarship. The criteria for the scholarship includes academic expertise along with enrolling in a science-related field. The scholarship was originally set up through contributions from Jeff’s family and friends. Contributions to this scholarship fund can still be made through NDCF in Bismarck.
