Scully icon tutorial
Simple tutorial for Photoshop.
We will learn how to go from that:
to that:
1. I took this cap from "The X-files DVD Screen Grab Archive" (cool name, isn't it? lol)
2. Then I created new 100x100 image in Photoshop (just in case - I have version 7.0, but I think that you'll be able to do all these manipulations in almost every version of it). Then dragged picture into that new future-to-be-icon.
3. Now I'll have to resize it. You can either press Ctrl+T or go this way: "Edit"-->"Free transform". If you don't want to sqeeze caps or make them look weird, press "Shift" during transformation. It'll preserve aspect ratio. Luckily you'll get something like this:
4. Then I sharpened that image. ("Filter"-->"Sharpen"-->"Sharpen"). So we'll get this:

(sorry, the quality is crappy, because I saved this as a screenshot, well. my mistake)
5. Now you shold either create another layer, fill it with "DEE2CE" color or just use my gradient:

Then, please, put it on "Linear Burn" with 20% opacity.
Result:

6. Now create another layer, fill it with "CECECE" color, put it on "Overlay" with 50% Opacity.
Result:

7. You won't believe it, but it's time for another layer. This time - with "CEBA98" color. Put it on "Color Burn" with 50% Opacite.
Result:

8. Duplicate it, but change "Color burn" to "Multiply".
Result:

You should get this in the end:
9. Now I'd like to add some text. Let it be "xxx" with "Bobcat" font. You can download it here. I made "Spacing" 20%, so then letters won't overlap.

10. Well, we're finished. And I hope it was useful for you at least a little.
I like the result. I think it's cute:
