Lick Observatory
The 46th Annual Summer Series
Lick Observatory, perched on Mount Hamilton, is one of the nation's oldest research observatories – home to historic telescopes, active research instruments making groundbreaking astronomical discoveries, and public programs that connect visitors with the night sky.
After the December 25, 2025 storm (winds recorded at 114 miles per hour) removed a dome shutter of our historical 36” Great Refractor Telescope and damaged the main building roof, we are revising our 46th Annual Summer Series while major repairs are underway.
We are doing everything we can to bring our usual excellence to our 2026 programs and welcome fans of astronomy to the mountain. Thanks to the dedication of our staff and community, we’re able to offer modified versions of our Public Evening Tours, Observing Nights, and Photography Nights this summer. Follow us for updates and event details.
