Intention Setting
Not just goals
For some time now, I have been paying attention and learning to flow with nature, the cosmos, and life. This first required me to be more connected and intentional with myself—my thoughts, emotions, energy, and body.
In the same way that I would check the weather to determine how to dress or what activities to do or not do, I now pay attention to astrology, moon cycles, solar activity, and many other things.
Basically, reading the room, taking the temperature of everything. Internally and externally.
Like noticing when I have my period (don’t run if you’re male, speaking about menstruation should not be taboo) in the moon cycle. For those days my body requires different things of me. I should not have to force my body to go on as usual while so much is happening inside me. After all it is not just physiological changes that happen at that time. My intuition and creativity is usually heightened during my period but, I never noticed that when I was rushing through life to the next thing and made myself stick to rigid schedules going against what I needed as a woman.
PMS is worse when I don't honour my vessel. It is basically my inner me getting really upset, my body not being happy because it is speaking to me and I am ignoring its needs. Food cravings, needing more hydration ( you are bleeding), needing to rest (duh), bloated tummy (not if you eat what your body needs) and any of the many symptoms we experience is not a problem. It can be and is, if we aren't being intentional.
Okay so I used menstruation because I am a woman but this goes for anyone, at any age, etc. We schedule so much, but that means doing things even if your tired or not feeling well. Even if its a good thing it may not be in a given moment. Certain animals need to do certain things during certain seasons. We as humans are so different from each other yet we are required to all to the same things, in the same way, at the same time.
What does this have to do with intention setting and goals. Well, I feel like more and more, money goals, career goals and any other goals cannot or should not be pursued at the detriment of our health and that includes emotional, spiritual and mental well-being. Even creative self-expression is a need that becomes a problem like depression and other things when we do not have healthy outlets or are intentional about processing our experiences and regulating ourselves.
Asking with every moment, does this align with me, who I am and who I want to be? Not only what I want to have and acquire.
Maybe you are meant to marry later in life and travel the world before. Maybe the exact meeting of certain people and relationships set you up for ‘the one’. Maybe being a parent ends up being how you make a living or inspires your greatest project. Maybe children isn’t for you in this life. Maybe a wealthy partner and matching outfits is goals but are you aligned in other ways? Is having rigid goals and timelines really helpful? Yes and no I guess.
Setting intentions means I know what I want and am open to how that happens. It means taking the nudges, signs and opportunities the Universe unfolds while being discerning about what is and isn’t for me. It means detours may be necessary, enlightening and aiding the process. It means allowing.
All this requires a lot of, shall we say synchronisation, patience, being uncomfortable in the in-between. Being ok with, being still. Having a different mindset about what success is.
I still set goals like the places I would love to travel to. The businesses I want to start. The assets I would like to have or how much money I want to make. To get there though, isn’t only about then saving or investing or work-related, studies, etc. Its also about me being happy because then I am more creative and have more energy. Having fulfilling work and life experiences so that motivation and drive is not a thing I have to force. Its about a harmonious family life so that I don’t expend energy on drama or issues that drain me or never get resolved because we don’t focus on our relationship with ourselves. A better me means better relationships with others. Knowing not everything is for us.
So your partner, relationships, work, family life, life purpose etc. aligns more harmoniously.
I now often write New moon intentions that look like, having the courage to speak up in situations where I never do, not beating myself up for not meeting expectations, my own or others. Not feeling like I always have to be busy to feel worthy and productive. I also do Full moon shadow work on what I don’t or didn’t see before and how to grow through it or releasing what needs to be released. Physically, mentally, emotionally or energetically. Writing it out makes for and amazing reflective tool and a measurement of growth that isn’t easily noticed or can’t easily be assessed by the accumulation of material things.
One of my big life goals is not sprinting through life as if it is a race . To enjoy life and live with ease. Not continuously chasing the next thing while still knowing I am capable of great things, worthy and deserving of wonderful things too.
Knowing, believing it, feeling it and living that way takes time and intention. This requires awareness.
most of our attention goes to what we do
deeply consider what you believe
without the knowing
the doing matters not
We are allowed to change our minds and re-evaluate our priorities, needs and goals. Sometimes what we thought we wanted was not our ‘wants’ but someone else’s based on beliefs we didn’t know we had, didn’t know could be different, or were to afraid to question and go against.
Honouring my body because I am suppose to love myself enough to be healthy. To live. Honouring my heart because everything we want is about how it makes us feel. Love is the basis of everything or should be. Honouring my soul because there is nothing that exists beyond it, beyond energy. My soul is my truest me and all paths lead me home to it.
Chosing love and to not abandon yourself or knowing how to love yourself will have you question everything you have ever known. Especially when your life requires you to live against yourself or you didn’t know that was what was happening.
Here great change happens.

sometimes i like ta ponder the interplay of
wish > aspiration > intention > determination
how they can inform each other
i like how you point out its perfectly ok to change your goals along the way
im often trying ta chainge what im up to 🤪
i love this about setting intentions to allow, not to force. Also to realize that life is not a race to be sprinted through. I have been working on that for the past year, slowing down and letting life live through me. I used to feel so much pressure to do everything I could.
