Week thirty-nine challenge (take two)

Our last challenge got no entries at all. D: I guess it was a little too hard? So I decided to repost an easier challenge. :D

Word challenge: Sunlight

You must use a variation, synonym, or visual interpretation of this word in your icon. If you think the way you used it is obtuse, feel free to explain you motives.

Image challenge: You must have more than one person in your icon.

Color challenge: At least 20% of your icon should be desaturated.

Font challenge: No gothic fonts. (Example of mentioned text is in the icon I'm using for this post.)

Layer challenge: You must use either an exclusion layer of whatever color you choose or have a "red dot" layer. (Red dot is also in the icon for this post.)

Just some community maintenance here.
Firstly, banners. Outstanding banners are as follows:

I've had a handful of people volunteer to do these, but I definitely would love more. If you would like to help out, just drop a comment on this post. No experience is required.
As to the future, all request will go to custom_banners. They have many experienced bannermakers, that will be happy to make banners for your winning icons.

Secondly, mods. If you are a current mod, please reply to my screened comment, in this post. I have a few things I'd like to say to you guys and i need to know who is active and who is not. If you do not comment then I will assume you are no longer active.

Thirdly, the current theme. Please, take time to submit.

#3 - The light textures and various brushes around the text work together very nicely, but Sakura herself looks much too pale and washed out.
#4 - I love the different greens in this icon, but the text is too faded and difficult to make out.

+ Please refer to cb_overflow for banners, this week. I doubt that most of our current bannermakers are still active, so I've decided to remove bannermakers. I will be dealing with the current banner back-up. Hopefully, I will be able to send you guys off to the wonderful people at custom_banners, when i have dealt with all the outstanding weeks. Thank you for understanding.

Ummm. This took FOREVER. I'm really sorry, sometimes I tend to forget this community. :( Plus I'm not getting comment notifications, so I don't know whether or not people have entered unless I come check manually.

I'm also going on vacation, starting Sunday, so if one of the other mods could post winners and a new challenge, that would be great. :3

Week thirty-six winners. O_O; Finally. I'm so sorry about my recent vanishing act. XD I, uh... I had cramming to do for exams, and I kinda forgot about this community.

We had a two-way tie for third place... but I figured that after waiting so long for the winners, you wouldn't want me to post a tiebreaker, so I just... did it myself. ._.

Week 36

WEEK 35 CHALLENGE:
Word challenge: Foreign Language

You must have something written on your icon in a language other than english. Please provide the language used and a translation when you submit your icon. You can use english as well as long as something is also from another language.

Image challenge: Manga. You must use a manga image on your icon.

Color challenge: No White. Nothing on your icon can be white (aka. #FFFFFF). Off-white is fine, and almost white too, but there shouldn't be any completely white pixel.

Font challenge: Cut-off. YOu must have your text be partially covered or cut-off by the edge or by another layer. My icon is an example. aka this means we shouldn't be able to see the entirety of your words.

Layer challenge: Use one of the following layers on your icon.

01 - the green shade is a little green but overall I really like the icon. Nice cropping and composition.
02 - Frankly, it's a little boring. It looks like the picture was just cropped out and set over the texture. The text placement is nice, but a different font or some decorations around it could have been used.
02 - the cropping of the icon is a little awkward
03 - normally I'm not fond of primarily green tones, but this icon just looks really good with those shades :D
05 - the icon seems very busy.
09 - the texture is just kind of there. It doesn't really seem to serve a purpose other to be placed there. And the coloring of the icon doesn't really flow well together.
10 - I like how vibrant it is without being glaring\
11 - It's kind of hard to make out Fuu's details; she's a little oversaturated and there wasn't much care taken in making sure she didn't come out blurry.
12 - I really like the muted tones of this icon; the red splotches aren't over done either.
