Richard Pryor was great in a dramatic role, even if the thing dragged along a bit, a little over-determined as union movies can be. Very cynical last half hour and a strong finish. Gruesome death scene that dragged on in a good way. As a union rep, I'm not saying I want exactly what happens in this movie to happen, but the stakes here do make what my union is up to look pretty childish in comparison.

It's no fluke!

More than a mere excuse to use the language, it's a great demonstration on how it sounds in action with nice dramatic arc. I also like how A Clockwork Orange deepens the narrative, it being a book with a main character speaking a slanguage who is arrested and "cured" of deficiencies by the state.

It makes no sense how she's suddenly soft for her bastard ex (after he held her in marriage against her will for 7 years) the *moment* he leaves it in her hands. Maybe I'd buy that she misses the town and its people but we're shown no reason for her to like this guy specifically. Besides, she outs her gay friend! In a small Alabama town! In 2002! For no reason! Not to mention that he might be the only nice person depicted. Everyone else deserves each other!
