the stop-motion segment before it cuts to the guy glued me to my chair, the scene with the couple in red cutouts swooned me. my newfound love is inseperable from the fact that it felt like watching a Tatami Galaxy episode and the speedy narrations hypothetizing situations with the girl made me especially giddy. wouldnt be surprised if Tomihiko Morimi wrote this instead of, apparently, Haruki Murakami (does explain the ankle conversation and Woody Allen mention, though).

still clinging onto a timeline where this was the yuri Toki wa Kakeru Shojo. i thought i was crazy when Haruka's growth didn't hit as hard but it was when i noticed they didn't include the thing mocking her on the class board that the movie finally fell flat for me. for an adaptation of a 18 chapter manga it came out crammed and bland.
a hauntingly light-headed short movie about the assertion of the mentally ill. my first Sara Driver work and it hooked me into her cinematography already, this had to be thickly inspired by Tarkovsky. can't wait to see Sleepwalk.

the key to enjoying this is to watch it during family times and be content with the mish-mash of concepts that were obviously tailored for more impresionable moviegoers, from multiverse fans to kiddie-pool cinephiles who only began fawning over Wong Kar Wai a week ago. my opinion remained unchanged, however; it has a very bloated buildup, lasting 3/4 of its runtime, into a rightful (imo) contender for the best Asian-American diaspora anguish in modern film.
