Night Is Short, Walk On Girl
★★★½ Watched

I have to say, I’ve rarely laughed as much as I did during the Sophist dance scene. Overall, Night is Short, Walk on Girl is filled with optimism and creativity. While some story beats feel a bit clunky or hard to follow, the film’s charm and energy more than make up for it.

Millennium Actress
★★★★½ Watched

How was it again—“truly the world in 90 minutes”? Millennium Actress stands as a shining testament to this sentiment. A life, a nation’s cinema, the echoes of its history… and at the heart of it all, love - with all its beauty and tragedy.

Unfolding in breathtaking visuals that only animation can conjure, it sweeps you into a dream-like reverie.

If I had one small nitpick, it would be that a fully orchestrated soundtrack would have elevated the film to perfection, as such grand imagery begs for equally expansive music.

Yet, this doesn’t detract from the fact that Millennium Actress is truly indispensable cinema.

Heeeeere we go again!
September 15th: the terror twins were finally asleep, the living room was dark…it was time to hop into Hooptober!
There’s much to love about Maniac: unique perspective, superbly crafted effects, a tour de force-performance by Joe Spinell, score…
Making the murderer a deeply disturbed Everyman instead of a masked, virtually supernatural being, makes it all the way eerier.
That the story is more bare bones than a dinosaur skeleton, that it’s…

Part of Hooptober 7

#23

It took me three separate sessions to finish this one. Not because I’ve had to change my underwear but simply because I fell asleep. Way too long, unoriginal (exactly the same structure as the first part mixed with a little known gem called The Exorcist), bad performances, kitsch...
Two stars for some of the scares and the overall look.
