The real horror is about the mismanagement and endangerment of our environment and the ecosystems within it

A haunting and raw look into Rwandas genocide, 18 years after the fact. The portrayal of inter generational trauma is so prevalent and so well done, showcasing the new generation and the old, as well as the effects on a village and community that had to live through it.

I really enjoyed this film, it's beautifully shot with some stunning photography of both landscapes and portraits. Its story also feels necessary, not only for the subtle teaching of Rwandas dark history, but also the effect on how it moves on and tries to forgive.

Completely frustrating.

Misses on its emotional beats due to its uninteresting and badly written characters. It tries to be sentimental and tug on your heart but it doesn't work.

All of this coupled with the fact that it's pacing and script is bad.  I spent more time waiting for it to finish and rolling my eyes then being any way connected.

Three people are alone for the holidays. One who feels abandoned. One who's lost everyone. One who never had anyone. All of them lonely. They have nothing in common, yet they find company in each other.

Like a cold beer on a hot summers day, or a hot chocolate with marshmallows in the depth of the winter. A simple story, with a complex narrative. Thematically rich and stylistically creative. The Holdovers is seldom dull, and deserves the credit it gets.
