I don’t think there’s ever been a movie that’s made me laugh harder. The first fight with Cato and the dentist scene have both made me laugh to the point of crying and/or coughing uncontrollably. Burt Kwouk and Herbert Lom deserve way more love.
There are so many throwaway moments that are so funny too, like Clouseau pulling Chevalier’s tie at the desk or Dreyfus saying “I have to tinkle again, don’t do anything until I get back.” I had to rewind and watch the tie gag multiple times. I love this movie so much.
Kino’s 4K disc is wonderful. The transfer looks gorgeous.
A more commercial version of Inherent Vice (and so much more) but still not commercial enough to be a big hit. Who cares, this movie rules. Thank you Mike Deluca and Warner Brothers for giving Paul Thomas Anderson the money to work at this scale.
Give Sean Penn the Oscar. This better get a bunch of other nominations too. Is it topical enough that it could actually win Best Picture? Yes, but it probably won’t. Again who cares. What a…
