Scary Movie

Scary Movie is about the same quality of all of them, although I suppose I'd give this bonus points for simply having current references (many of which are still dated). I laughed a few times, but ultimately, by the end of this, I'm just exhausted, specifically when it begins to loose the plot to just have vaguely connected spoofs of movies. The ending really works, and it's just a pleasure to see Regina Hall, MVP of this entire series, have a great…

Close Encounters of the Third Kind
★★★★ Liked Rewatched

Close Encounters of the Third Kind is a truly gorgeous movie. The composition of the shots are astounding and the effects hold up today. It's a bit more contemplative than I prefer from this era of Spielberg, which isn't really a statement about its quality; just on how much I enjoy watching it. Williams' score is spectacular and there are some really cool setpieces here. It just feels a bit too dragged out for me, and feels more influenced by…

very proud to be on the frontlines of this being shown as part of a nature unto in the last week of school. it’s always better to show a movie most haven’t seen, and plus this is miles better than the other two options (bee movie or the lorax). missed a decent chunk of it as i was working but what I saw definitely held up!

Scary Movie 5
½ Rewatched

Scary Movie 5 is the kind of bad movie that makes me think I was too harsh on every other Scary Movie. Nothing here works, it’s exhausting, and it feels three times the length it actually is. Kinda a bummer I saw this before Black Swan. Absolutely asinine and headache-inducing, Scary Movie 5’s existence is an insult to anyone who has ever watched a movie. Completely abysmal.

The Emoji Movie
★★★★★ Added

Move over Christopher Nolan! The Emoji Movie is easily the greatest film of 2017 and a striking condemnation of all who have insulted its very existence. A brilliant commentary of how the modern world's over-reliance on texting and pictures to portray emotion, this film does exactly that. When Gene the Meh Emoji is denied the love of his father because he actually enjoys being alive, it's a perfect representation of how toxic masculinity prevents one feeling emotions other than raw…

The Nice Guys

The Nice Guys is ridiculously fun. There's no other way to describe it. It's a solid two hours of non-stop enjoyment, even with a couple of flaws here and there. Before talking about those issues though, let's dwell for a bit on what makes this a truly brilliant summer blockbuster - or at least, what would make it so if audiences had embraced it. Instead, it will have to be happy with being an underseen gem.

The fun of The…
