wow. this is crazy. it's been forever since i logged onto livejournal! i feel shitty, especially since i haven't posted icons at this comm since february! but i do have a good excuse, and that is that my computer broke and my dad's (the one i was using) didn't have photoshop on it so i couldn't post anything. but i just got my brand new toshiba in the mail the other day, and it's fabulous. and i installed photoshop on here five minutes ago (literally) so i'll be making stuff. where does this leave letsrollalong? i'll post a few things on here, hopefully a few icons, but i make no promises, in the next few days. thanks, you guys, for supporting me throughout the time that i've been here!

We start off with an image of The Veronicas, although any image will do. This is a tutorial for making your black and white images a little less plain. Feel free to ask questions - I'll always try to answer them.

If the image you chose was in color, you will have to desaturate it. I usually duplicate my image before I desaturate it just in case I make a mistake. Also, I recommend desaturating right on the image, instead of using an extra layer. It's just easier later in the tutorial. If your image is already black and white, you can skip this step, obviously.

Your next step is to duplicate your desaturated base. Set this copy to Soft Light 100% to give your image a deeper feel. Please note: this layer may not be needed depending on how dark your start image may be. Feel free to play with the opacity or just get rid of the layer if it doesn't seem to fit! But be aware that it is supposed to look a little too dark.

Next, we're going to add a color fill layer. Fill it with a dark, almost-black gray. I used #242121. Set this layer to Exclusion 100%. Now, our image should look smoother, shady, and simple.

We're done!
