No, seriously, I'm delighted a bunch of people have delivered on things they've been meaning to do over the past few months, and a few more are on the verge of it. (And at least one is Getting It Done but constrained to post during another challenge, opening in a couple of weeks.) Random deadlines ftw!

This comm will remain open for posting to allow those of you nearly there to post in the next weeks, and I'll aim to put up a masterpost before Christmas. But anyone posting later is still welcome. We're more about the progress than the timekeeping (Stern Puppy notwithstanding).

And then, amazingly, cassiopeia7 happened, and made me think about practicalities and aerodynamics, and just what Hell's Gate should look like – and just look at what she made for this story. We hope you love both fic and art; we definitely loved creating them!

Got it all done!

So, here it is - the final story in my Spike/Giles season 7 series (which is still searching for an overall title. I thought of Secondary Theatre - as in, theatre of war, Sunnydale being the primary theatre of the war against the First in season 7. But if you google 'secondary theatre' (or indeed 'theater') you just get links to secondary school theatre programs. So perhaps not?).

Anyway, this may not be what some of you were expecting as the end of this series, but it is the way I always imagined it ending. And it is a series. There are many references in this story to what has gone before, for which see here for previous stories in the series. I'll put up a link to the series on Ao3 when I've posted it there (which won't be till after I have an overall title. Sigh!)

Setting: Charles Robson's flat, London. The evening of the same day of the previous story, Secrets.
Rating: PG-13/R-ish (mainly for swearing and mention of attempted rape).

We are still seven weeks from deadline, but there are members (cough, me) who may have reasons to post sooner. And that is perfectly okay, okay? When the time comes that you have Got It Done (whatever It may be):

1. To let us all know you're completing the challenge, please post a link to your completed (or progressed fanwork if a WIP) fanwork here at letsgetitdone. You're welcome to post your entire fanwork here at the comm if you prefer. If you're posting multiple chapters or connected art posts, consider posting just a masterpost to letsgetitdone and linking to multiple posts at your journal. Of course, you can also crosspost to as many other places as pleases you; this comm is all about sharing the fandom creativity.

2. Your link or post header should include the following: title, creator(s) name, featured character(s)/pairings, rating, fandom your fanwork relates to, any relevant warnings (see below). Other header information is at your discretion.

3. Warnings and ratings: it is mandatory to warn for applicable AO3 standard warnings: Non-Con/Character Death/Extreme Violence/Underage Sex. Other warnings at your discretion. If you choose not to warn for any of these, please state it clearly in the header. Any NSFW or NC17 material must be clearly rated.

I'm going away for a few days. Of *course* I'll be Getting It Done on my long lonely train journeys and in tedious hotel rooms with 13 TV channels you don't want to watch, which have lousy reception too and where the wifi only works up to the third floor while you're on the eighth. No, I won't be downstairs in the bar, drinking to forget. Nope.

Meantime, you are also going to be Getting It Done, right? I know some of you have been making great progress, and that's *awesome*. I beam with pleasure at the knowledge. Go, champs, go! *\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/*

But I suspect some of you have reached the Laptop Chewing Stage (Fig. A). Where things just WON'T COME OUT RIGHT. DAMMIT. Or where the drafting is okaaaaay, but the editing is making you tear your hair out. Please don't be tearing your hair, nor chewing the laptop. Take a break. Have a cuppa. Go for a walk. Your fanwork will thank you for it. So will your computer and your bank balance.

Most people in this comm know darned well what they want to create, if only they could get there and complete it, but some of you are starting on new projects, I know. So here's a ficathon that might shake loose a few ideas: spook_me is just open for signups. Pick a fandom, pick a monster and get a random picture prompt which this year comes from tarot. And see what gets created.

The deadline is shorter than for Get It Done, but who knows? You might find that some exciting new ideas flourish.

This is the signups post for letsgetitdone 2013 round. The official signups period is over, but if you still want to sign up to complete something by December, drop a line below.

What is this comm of which you speak?
Get It Done is a motivation-a-thon. Kind of like Nano, but much less specific. Sign up here and commit to creating Something. Something you want to do. Something you've been meaning to do. Something you'd like to try. Something where you need the Deadline Fear to give you that little nudge into action. The deadline is a main posting week or so in early December up until 8 Dec, though you can post early if you like. So you have 5 months or so, depending on the time of your signup. The point is making that commitment to Do A Thing. Committing to a Thing is a good part of the battle to getting that thing done.

Okay, what's involved?
Sign up below, making that committment. Join the comm and receive periodic reminders that your deadline time is ticking away. Do the thing you signed up for. When you're done, please post a link in the comm and share your creation in as many other places as you care to share The Thing That You Have Now Done.

This seems a little non-specific. What kind of Thing can I Do?
Pretty much anything creative. It's not about me dictating what you want to create. You might commit to writing a new chapter in an ongoing WIP because you need a deadline to aim for. Or to trying a particular pairing or writing style which is new, or writing out a bunny that's been bugging you. Or to writing a long fic, because you've never done over 10k and you'd like to give it a shot, though you don't yet know which characters are involved. Or to creating a series of artwork, or just ten icons, or to running down the perfect image of the way Julie Benz's mouth tilts to the left and making that gif you've been meaning to do for years. Or to sculpting Andrew Wells out of paperclips. I do not judge.

I hear you're a Buffyverse writer. I'm not. Is Get It Done for me too?
Yep. Totally. Last year we were Jossverse specific, but this year we're open to works from any fandoms, including crossovers. I had one request for original fic to be included, and I can't think of a reason to exclude. Definitely welcoming all media - fic, art, vids, meta, poetry, music, fanmixes, whatever. Another person asked about writing in other languages – also absolutely fine. Ask if you have anything else you're concerned about, but I'd like to be as inclusive as possible. (If you're posting adult or triggery material, I'll ask you to warn appropriately when posting, btw, but if that's what you want to create this comm is also very much open to you.)

Your artwork still looks a little Jossversey…
Yeah. I have no art skillz, and lovely people helped me out last year by donating banners. If lovely people from other fandoms would like to help out more this year, I'll gladly mix up the fandoms a bit. But if you can live with art that is a little Buffy-centric, so can I.

I signed up last year and didn't deliver. Am I outcast?
Nope. It's about challenging yourself. Sometimes, that doesn't work out. If you want to try again, try again.

Deadlines oppress me

If you're interested in participating with fandoms outside the Jossverse, definitely let me know. I'm easy either way, but there's no need to keep this mono-fandomic (totally a word) if people would benefit from Deadlines of Doom in other fandoms.
