The IICRC FSRT (Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician) certification course is designed for those wanting to improve their knowledge in the fire and smoke restoration industry. There are no experience requirements or prerequisites to attend the FSRT course. We have students who are brand new to the industry with no experience, and students who have been in the industry for years! The FSRT class will give you the understanding and information you need to properly assess a fire loss, determine affected materials, create a restoration plan, understand the scope of work to be performed, determine needed equipment, understand the science of fire restoration, and more!

Should I take the FSRT Course?

The IICRC FSRT certification is often one of the first classes students take in their restoration industry education. The Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician class teaches students the fundamentals of cleaning and restoring buildings damaged by fire and smoke. Anyone can take the FSRT class, there are no prerequisites or experience required!

After taking the FSRT course, students will have the opportunity to take the IICRC exam. Once you pass the exam, you will receive your certification. Our FSRT course prepares students for the exam following class and, more importantly, for real-world applications.

After attending the course, students can take the FSRT exam. Upon passing the exam, the IICRC will issue the student a certification and mail a certificate for you to display! Students are able to take the exam after attending a FSRT course with LearnToRestore.com.

How long is the FSRT class?

The IICRC FSRT class is a 2-day class.

When do I take the FSRT exam?

After completing the online live-stream exam, students have a 45-day window to take the exam online through the IICRC exam portal.

For in-person FSRT classes, students will take the exam on the last day of class.

Does the FSRT certification expire?

The IICRC FSRT certification expires after 1-year. To renew, students must pay a yearly renewal fee. Additionally, every 4 years, students must earn 14 Continuing Education Credits.

How many questions are on the FSRT exam?

The FSRT exam consists of 96 multiple-choice questions. It is a closed-book and closed-notes exam.

Can I use notes on the FRST exam?

No, the IICRC Fire and Smoke Technician exam is closed-book and closed-notes.

How much is the FSRT exam cost?

The FSRT exam costs $80. If you fail the exam, there is an $80 retest fee.

Can I retake the FSRT exam?

Students have three attempts to pass the FSRT exam. Each exam attempt has an $80 exam fee. If you fail the third attempt, you will need to take the FSRT class again before an additional exam retake. If you fail the exam three times and need to take the class again, we will put you in a refresher class for free! 

What is the ANSI/IICRC S700 Standard?

The ANSI/IICRC S700 Standard for Professional Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration outlines principles and procedures for fire and smoke damage restoration. The FSRT class introduces students to the industry standards.

Does FSRT teach smoke odor removal?

Yes, students learn deodorization principles, odor source removal, and various odor control methods. Many students also take the Odor Control Technician (OCT) course to learn more about odor control.
