How Do Alerts and Notifications Work Together?
You can choose which perimeters you would receive an in-app or email notification. For example, a team member may prefer to get a notification, rather than an email, when the date changes on a task they are assigned to.

The choice between email alerts or in-app notifications is based on preference and how you would prefer to work within the software.
