Learn how to install our Microsoft Teams integration for the first time. Once you've completed these steps, you and your team will be able to interact with your ProjectManager tasks and projects without leaving Teams.

This article focuses on the initial setup of the integration. For a guide to using the integration after it's been installed, see How to use our Teams integration

Don't have the integration at all? Purchase the add-on

Before You Begin

Before you install our Teams integration please check the following:

  • You need to be on a Business or Enterprise account
  • You will need our Advanced Collaboration bundle which costs $5/user/month, you can purchase this in the app by following the steps below, or contact sales to learn more
  • You need a Microsoft work or school account with access to Microsoft Teams, personal Microsoft accounts use are not supported

Activate the App in ProjectManager

It’s important to consider which user first activates the Teams integration. They will become the primary user and their projects may be visible to other Teams users in your company. We recommend creating a new user and only giving them access to projects you’re happy for everyone to see, then activate the integration as this user.

To get started you'll need to activate the app inside ProjectManager:

  • Click your name at the bottom left, then Integrations, then Teams
  • Click the Activate button at the top right:

  • The next screen may take up to a minute to appear, be patient with this one
  • Leave all the settings as they are, click the "Sign in with Microsoft" button:

  • Microsoft's login screen then appear, continue through the steps in that window
  • Once you've connected to Microsoft you can enable the Teams Bot:

Depending on your edition, you may need to upgrade to access the Integrations panel or activate Microsoft Teams. If this applies to you, there will be instructions inside the product showing you how to proceed.

Install the App in Teams

Now that the Teams app is activated, you need to install it to your Teams account:

  • Click Connect to Teams to connect your ProjectManager and Teams accounts
  • Click the Download Teams App button to save the app to your computer
  • Log in to Microsoft Teams
  • From the left-hand menu click Apps, then Manage Your Apps, then Upload an app

Teams will provide a few options for uploading your app, any of these options will work. However, we recommend the following:

  • If you're a Teams admin choose: Upload an app to your org's catalogue
  • If you're not a Teams admin choose: Submit an app to your org

Test the App

The app should now be ready to use, let's test it:

  • Open the app by clicking Apps, then Built For Your Org, then ProjectManager
  • Post a message to the app simply containing the word: help
  • The app will post back with information about the app

If this succeeds, then the app is ready to be used.

Channels or Direct Messages

While you can use the bot purely via direct messages, there will likely be times when you want to interact with a bot in a public channel. To do so, you simply need to add the bot to the channel by following these steps in Teams:

  • Click Apps
  • Click ProjectManager
  • Click the arrow beside Open
  • Click Add to a Team

Finally, choose the channels/teams you want the app to be available in.

What Your Team Members See

The first time anyone on your team interacts with the app, they'll be asked to log in to their ProjectManager account. This allows us to securely know who they are so they can only interact with the projects and tasks to which they have access.

They'll see a message like this:

If they go to the Direct Messages, they'll see:

Once they click Connect and log in to their ProjectManager account they will be free to the app. This login step only happens one time.

Note: Our integrations are not available for anyone with a guest license.
