Indirectly deploy a chemical irritant by targeting a solid object near a subject — no direct line of sight required. Byrna Pepper and Byrna Max rounds shatter on impact, saturating a 3–5 foot area and causing temporary effects: involuntary eye closing, intense burning, breathing difficulty, and coughing.

How the Byrna SD works
Our most popular law enforcement product. Glass-reinforced polymer body with a rubber over-mold grip, powered by 8g or 12g CO₂ with proprietary pull-pierce technology — no leakage in storage. A 5- or 7-round magazine feeds .68 caliber frangible projectiles at up to 300 fps, accurate to 60 feet.

Byrna's frangible projectiles carry an encapsulated chemical payload that delivers incapacitating effects. Each round shatters on impact, releasing a high concentration of irritant powder in a large dispersion cloud. Byrna Pepper (OC/PAVA) and Byrna Max (OC/CS) are available in .68 caliber, with 12-gauge shells coming soon.
