If a minor under 18 drives a vehicle in India, it is illegal under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. A fine of ₹25,000 is imposed, and the case may go to the juvenile court. The parents or vehicle owner are held responsible and can face up to 3 years of imprisonment along with the fine. The vehicle’s registration can also be cancelled for up to one year. Moreover, the minor may not be allowed to get a driving licence until the age of 25. If an accident happens, the punishment becomes much stricter.
