If a vote in the Lok Sabha results in a tie (equality of vote), the speaker or the presiding officer casts a deciding vote is known as casting vote. Under Article 100(1) of the Indian Constitution, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha does not vote in the first instance but exercises a "casting vote" to resolve a deadlocked tie.
