Yes, AIBE is mandatory if a lawyer wants to practice in the Supreme Court. AIBE gives the Certificate of Practice, which proves that the lawyer is qualified to appear in any court in India. Without passing AIBE, a lawyer cannot get this certificate. Even though the Supreme Court has its own rules and sometimes requires an additional exam for the Advocate-on-Record (AOR) status, the basic requirement is still the AIBE. So, to practice freely and confidently in the Supreme Court, clearing AIBE is an essential first step.
