A new lawyer usually cannot contest Bar Council elections right away. Most Bar Councils ask for a lawyer to have a few years of work experience before they can stand for elections. This rule is made so that only people who understand how the legal system works can help run the Bar Council. So, a fresh lawyer must first gain experience and then they can try to contest in future elections.
