3003 Unfinished sketchbooks - How I’m Recharging From Burnout

A third studio tour about procrastination and motivation and also, creating quite a lot

Welcome to another video showing the contents of my messy studio and sketchbooks. Since our last 2 videos, 1001 Unfinished sketchbooks and 2002 unfinished sketchbooks, I have completely tidied up my house and emptied half of my studio, so it is ready to be viewed for sale. Many of my sketchbooks disappeared into a box, and as tidy as it felt, I also felt a bit lost. Where was that one sketchbook again? And that beautiful book by that one artist?

Trying to sell our house, partly homeschooling my kid, and juggling a handful of family things had me completely exhausted.

By mid-November, I found myself falling asleep almost everywhere—on the sofa, in the car (as a passenger, thankfully), while visiting my parents, and even at the movies with my daughter. So I finally went to the doctor—and got told what I already knew deep down: I need to slow down. Really slow down.

What’s been helping me recharge:

• Paint with a friend.
I went plein air painting, and it was the best morning I’d had in months. Nature + friendship + paint is honestly the perfect pick-me-up cocktail.

• Draw comfort.
Paint the things you love. The things that feel soft, familiar, or joyful. Ignore pressure, perfection, and everything else.
