Apologies for this coming out late. It’s been a rough couple of weeks. The regularly-scheduled free newsletter will still come out tomorrow!

Just joining Jane and Noah? Start with Episode 1!

This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, organizations, places, events, and incidents either are the product of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events, or locales is entirely coincidental.

Episode 10 is now available to all subscribers. Today’s episode will be unlocked on June 26.

The last few days, I learned little about Jane. She doesn’t talk very much while we drive. Mostly just stares out the passenger’s door window. But she listens, and somehow she seems a little less sad than when I met her. Or maybe I just want her to be less sad.

At our first official stop, we walked up the path to the top of the falls together. When she walks, even with the cane to steady her, she tilts and shuffles like she can’t quite pick her feet all the way up to step or her spine straight. So all the way up, I was freaking out a little inside, trying to watch her to make sure she didn’t fall but without her thinking I’m some kind of creeper. Once, she stumbled on a root embedded in the concrete, and my heart just about exploded out of my chest in panic. Why am I worrying so much about this person I barely know?
