Inception's Anniversay!

Today is Inception's first anniversary! I'm still wrapping my mind around the fact that twelve whole months have passed by. I remember seeing the trailer for the first time just like it was yesterday. *dreamy sigh* And it sort of introduced me to fandom, so let me go back in time for a bit ...

Beware, this is a monster of a post. Seriously.

The first time I was introduced to Inception had been in very late May 2010. My BFF, Edgar, had taken me to see Prince of Persia. We had just finished watching a preview for a movie I can't recall when the trailer for Inception came on. My jaw had litterally fell to the sticky floor approximately a minute into it, and I remember thinking: "Whoa". Yeah, not much, because my brain was busy processing the amount of awesomeness that it had inhaled through my eyeballs. My brain had short circuited a bit, as you can imagine.

Inception promised a concept no other movie had brought forth, or at least not that I know of. It was something so new, so original to me. Everything from the score, to JGL looking all BAMF in ANT-GRAVITY, to streets flipping on top of each other, and things blowing up was just so beautiful! By the time the trailer was over Edgar and I instantly turned to look at each other and knew, right then, that we were hooked. He had the same OH-MY-FUCK-WAS-THAT-FOR-REAL? look on his face, and July couldn't come fast enough.

Those spring and summer months had been a very beautiful time in my life. Everything wasn't perfect but I was working a job I actually didn't hate, I'd met some very amazing people in the process, and the hours were flexible. I was also road-tripping a lot since my job required it, which I enjoyed to do a lot of then. It was also around the time that the Pride Parade in San Francisco was going on. Edgar, two other friends, and I had gone for the first time. It was amazing, and hilarious. We'd gotten lost so many times looking for the actual parade. We hadn't been in San Francisco in a long time, and it was hot as hell, but the sunburn and swollen feet were worth it.

Anyhow, very soon after that July came and Inception opened in theaters and I was already beyond hyped up. What, with all the talk, previews, mystery, and awesome TV spots that were much too short. Sadly I couldn't go to the midnight screening and actually didn't end up seeing it until July 18.

The first time I saw it, I went with my mom who wanted to see it as well. She got sick, by the way, in the first ten minutes of the film 'cause she had gone into surgery a few weeks before. She wasn't at her healthiest then, which in turn made me very depressed and always kept me nervous. She'd get a lot of panic attacks, too :( Later she confided that since she was so emotionally sensitive then that the film had scared her. Especially during the scene when the Paris street folds onto itself and when Limbo is introduced.

Oh also, before I'd gone to see the movie, I remember Inception heavily trending on Twitter every single day. And this went on for a really long time. Even after months of its release, so I'd gotten my fill of reading tweets about people being confused by the ending. Everyone kept saying what a mindfuck it had all been. And when I was sitting at the theater watching the last scene close I understood then what they had meant xD

Six days later, on Saturday, was when I saw Inception for the second time. I was at home when Edgar texted me... or did I text him? Hmm, well, I do remeber telling him, though, that I was frustrated and sad that I hadn't really enjoyed the film 'cause I'd been so worried about my mom. I asked then if he'd gone to see it yet and he'd said no. We didn't have anything else to do so we decided to see it.

We got to the theater, sat down, and waited. We were early, like always. By the time the movie started not a lot of people had crowded the place like the last time, but I didn't mind because I love being in a theater that's practically empty so there's little to no distractions from others.

When it was over I remember laughing a bit at people's loud "What?" and shocked gasps. And as we made our way out of the theater, suddenly, this feeling of melancholy surged through me. It had happened the first time, but hadn't been as strong because the urge to know what had really occurred had overpowered the sadness. This time it had taken a really tight hold of me, though. By the time we made it to Edgar's car I was feeling really down. All I could think of was: "Oh, fuck, maybe all of it was just a dream. Did the totem fall?! Cobb's still in Limbo, and is never going to see his children!" :( I kept annoying Edgar with questions hoping I would find peace of mind, as well as comfort, in his answers but he was just as confused as I was. He kept telling me: "Don't worry, Mely, I'm sure he really did make it home to his family and everyone's okay." But even after he'd dropped me home I'd logged onto Facebook to bug him with more questions and possibilities of what had happened.

Inception truly planted itself in my subconscious after that. I couldn't go a day without thinking about it. And EVERYONE was talking about it, so it's not like I could get away from it even if I wanted to. At work, at school, on the freaking street, strangers would be talking about it. I am not lying. I mean seriously, it was ridiculous. It had gotten to the point where I'd actually even contemplated writing to Chris Nolan to tell him when the films' subliminal messages would get out of our minds.

So, the second viewing did nothing to sate my thirst for the film, and that's when I turned to —wait, get ready for it— fanfiction! :D

Is it weird that I remember the exact date of when I was introduced to fandom? Guess I was just a lot more hyper aware at that time for some reason. My memory usually sucks.

I also developed an immense love for Tom Hardy around that time! Honestly, though, the first time I saw him he didn't seem so attractive to me. Maybe it was because of the clothes...? xD No, but I do remember drooling over his accent! Tom's voice is magical *__* Voices are a kink of mine. I've always fallen for people's voices first. I know, it's weird. Anyway, I started looking him up on the web and watching YouTube videos of his interviews. And when I start doing that with actors I know I'm in the first stages of developing the most ginormous crushes on them. It's the first warning signs of my future addiction.

Around this time in early August I'd begun to write a short piece of fanfic, but it was horrifically stupid. I hadn't written in more than a year. I still have it somewhere in my notebook. I'll probably never dust the cobwebs off it to continue it, though. That's how bad it is. And it's incredibly angsty, which I cannot handle much of anymore.

In September I went to see Inception for a third time again. Yes, lady and gents, you read right. I like to pretend that I went back to see it 'cause my little brothers hadn't seen it yet and I'd agreed to give them a ride to the theater. And hey, I didn't have anything better to do so I went in to see it along with them, too. But, no. And the third time is a charm! I understood it a whole lot more, and took things from it I hadn't noticed the first or second time.

So, this pretty much brings us to the conclusion of my little account of how I became obsessed with Inception, my crush for Tom Hardy, my fandom OD which kept me sated while I waited anxiously for the Inception Blu-ray, and still keeps me happy ^__^ I was actually disappointed with the Blue-ray a bit. I hoped there would be more extra features, but oh well :'(

*takes a deep breath*

Oh, and reader, if you're still reading this, I thank you for actually doing so. You're awesome!

OMG, people. PEOPLE. I'm still dancing!

Why? Well, because I'm so happy, dammit! Here let me tell you how ecstatic I still am that I found missmonkeh's
Oh Darling, Let's Be Adventurers

It's one of the very first Arthur & Eames fics I read on LJ. I think it was only the second one I'd read! And I loved it, but for some reason my dumb-ass didn't bookmark it and I completely forgot about where I'd read it. Yeah, I know. Stupid.

That is until two days ago!

Honestly, you guys have no idea how crazy I'd become looking for it. I searched for months! Like EIGHT months to be exact!

Ha ha! If you could see me when I found it.

I was in shock. I mean, I thought I was hallucinating! Then, I felt like a huge weight had eased off my shoulder's. Seriously. 'Cause when I set off to find something I can't stop till I find it.

I'm just really happy :) That fic is just so ~cute~. Honestly it's a good read, so go read it! ♥
