Kinda sad to see anime20in20 go. I miss all those 20in20 I used to make a lot of icons too. ~~I miss my free time too.~~ So here my almost late set for the final round. It is not just a set for farewell but a set for remembering all my style over all the rounds I participated. I wanted to recreate a lot of things so sorry if some sucked. :(

█ First let's extract the background from the original image and place in a 100x100px canvas. Behind it I added a Dark Grey slighty Pinkish Fill Layer (Layer - New Fill Layer - Solid Color - #252324). I wanted the image to blend with the background so I used the mask tool on the subject's layer.

█ Add this texture by lookslikerain. Use the Mask Tool (Or Eraser Tool) to erase a few bits over the subject face. Set it to Soft Light and Opacity 57%. Duplicate the layer once.

█ Add this this texture by midnightroad and use Blur - Gaussian Blur (27,8px) and set this layer to Soft Light. Again erase over the subject's face. Repeat the step without erasing the texture.

█ Add a New Layer and use the Brush Tool to add a few Yellowish Orange Blobs over the subject's face. Set this layer to Soft Light.

█ Now let's play with this texture by midnightroad. First add one in a new layer. Erase the middle part entirely and set this layer to Soft Light. Duplicate it and Flip Horizontally. Duplicate both layers and set to screen. You're going to need to play with the erase tool and set both opacity to 75%.

█ I don't remember exactly the one but I used a brush from this set in a new layer. Color is White.

█ Add this texture by midnightroad and erase basically everything except the corners. Set it to Soft Light.

█ Add this texture by midnightroad and set it to Soft Light. Erase a few blobs over the subject's face and over the the head piece.

█ Add a New Gradient Fill Layer.

Settings:
Gradient Fill
White-to-Black gradient
Style - Radial
Angle - 90º

Set to Soft Light and Opacity 58%

█ I don't remember the original texture but I added this on Soft Light.

█ Add a new Curves Layer. You'll add two points. One point is 59,78 and the other one 199,220.

█ Another texture I don't remember the original but added this on Soft Light.

█ Add a Hue/Saturation layer. Saturation +45 and Opacity of the layer 33%. Add a new Vibrance Layer. Vibrance +73, Saturation +1.

█ Copy Merged everything and paste into a new layer. Set it to Soft Light.

█ Add a Channel Mixer Layer.

Red +110, +10, -6
Green -6, +106, -6
Blue +5, -7, +91

█ For the base I "blended" two images together. First I placed this image in a layer and then this one in a second layer. I used a mask in this layer to erase exactly around the subjects and leaving a little blurry the edges to blend with the blue of the original image.

█ Add this texture by lookslikerain Set it to Soft Light and Opacity 57%.

█ Now add this texture by midnightroad and Set it to Soft Light, Opacity 50%. Erase all the middle part of the texture.

█ Add a New Gradient Fill Layer.

Settings:
Gradient Fill
White-to-Black gradient
Style - Radial
Angle - 90º

Set to Soft Light and Opacity 38%

█ Now add this texture by midnightroad and Set it to Soft Light, Opacity 25%. Again erase all the middle part of the texture.

█ Add a new Curves Layer. You'll add two points. One point is 59,78 and the other one 199,220.

█ Now add this texture by lj user="midnightroad"> and Set it to Soft Light, Opacity 55%.

█ Duplicate the texture layer and set it to Screen. Erase a few blobs over the subject's skins.

█ Add a Hue/Saturation layer. Saturation +45 and Opacity of the layer 33%

█ Now it's a bit tricky. Duplicate the layer using this image, the one composing the "background" not background. Place it over the composition. Set this layer to Multiply, Opacity 59%.

█ Add two Vibrance Layers. One is +75, Saturation -3 and the other Vibrance +17.

█ Add this texture by midnightroad and set it to... Guess what! Soft Light. Again you'll need to erase a few blobs over the subject's faces. Duplicate the layer.

█ Copy Merged the composition and paste into a new layer. Place this layer between the previous step's layers. Set it to Soft Light.

█ Add two Vibrance Layers with the Vibrance +100. The icon will pop out so use the Mask in both layer to erase a few blobs over the subject's. Here I just wanted the colors of the background to pop out.

█ Again Copy Merged everything, paste into a new layer and set it to Soft Light.

█ Add a Channel Mixer Layer.

Red +110, +10, -6
Green -6, +106, -6
Blue +5, -7, +91

I saved the image progression with a different "timing" from the steps. But the progression should be something like this.
