Our History

The College of Languages at Salahaddin University founded in 2005 as an independent college following its separation from the College of Arts, the College of Languages at Salahaddin University has emerged as a vital academic institution. It strengthens international engagement through language education, embracing modern developments while honoring cultural heritage and the richness of humanity’s native languages. Language, in this context, serves as an open gateway to knowledge, equipping students to connect with diverse global perspectives.

The college comprises nine departments, established in the following chronological order:

• Arabic Language (1976)
• English Language (1985)
• Persian Language (1998)
• French Language (2004)
• Turkish Language (2008)
• German Language (2011)
• Chinese Language (2019)
• Translation (2022)

Committed to fostering international academic collaboration, the college maintains strong partnerships with renowned institutions such as the University of Leipzig (Germany), various universities in France, Iran, and Turkey, Ain Al-Shams University (Egypt), Al-Hashemite University (Jordan), and both Wushu University and Shanghai University (China).

One of the college’s major achievements is its function as a cultural and academic bridge connecting the university to the broader community. In recent years, the incorporation of various cultural center activities within the college has enriched students’ academic experience and enhanced their social and cultural engagement.
