Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of Lafayette in America

The American Friends of Lafayette will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s arrival in the United States with a series of events beginning on June 13, 2027, exactly 250 years to the day he first set foot on American soil in South Carolina. From that date forward, the commemorations will trace Major General Lafayette’s journey across America, following the same path he traveled during the Revolutionary War. Cur Non!!!

This historic commemoration will culminate in Yorktown on October 19, 2031, marking the 250th anniversary of the British surrender and honoring Lafayette’s decisive contributions to the victory that secured American independence. Along the way, we will celebrate Lafayette as a brave and talented military leader, a skilled and polished diplomat, an unwavering champion of human rights, and the enduring Hero of Two Worlds we recognize today. Vive Lafayette!

The Celebration Begins on June 13, 2027!

2027 AFL250 Commemorations

On June 13, 1777, the Marquis de Lafayette first set foot on American soil, a moment that helped change the course of history and forge the enduring friendship between France and the United States.

Beginning on June 13, 2027, the American Friends of Lafayette will embark on a rolling Semiquincentennial celebration, tracing Lafayette’s footsteps across the eastern United States as each milestone from the American Revolution reaches its 250th anniversary.

Throughout this commemoration, we will continue to honor Lafayette’s legacy by commemorating, celebrating, and educating, through the hosting of educational programming and special events at locations he visited 250 years ago. The AFL250 initiative will carry through 2028, 2029, 2030, and 2031, culminating on October 19, 2031, with the grand commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Victory at Yorktown.
