You know, thinking back, it's happened scarily many times.

My first brush with death was when I was very little. I tried to self-medicate, but took wrong medicine by accident and poisoned myself. After that, I have almost drowned three times. There was this one time when I got stuck outside without any shelter during a violent lightning storm. Last year I was involved in a car fire (it had a pretty much full tank, so it's a miracle it didn't explode before the fire truck arrived). And this winter I had a grill oven explode behind my back.

Maybe this is why my life line (palmistry) is dashed.

When I was little, we lived with my grandparent and me and my grandfather developed a small dinnertime ritual. When the food was ready and grandmother started setting the table, I would go to the living room, where my grandfather would be sitting and take his hand and guide him to the kitchen. Back then he could still walk and see, but I loved that ritual and I guess he was humouring me. I can still remember the feel of his hand in mine. He always had very warm hands.

Usually when I go looking for new artists/bands, I stick to genres that I already have favourites in, or at least are similar to my usual tastes. Psychedelic techno doesn't even come near to what I listen to, but this band (and especially this song) is just so mind-blowingly good.

We have two celebrations here. Independence Day on 24. February and Re-independence Day on 20. August.
To be honest I don't do anything extravagant on those days. Usually I just have some more expensive wine with the girls and watch the "Penguin Parade".
Despite this, independence (and freedom in general) is an important concept for me and it's one of the few thing that I ever get political over.

Has anyone else tried the new translator that got attached to Google Chrome?
I'm having the greatest fun with this. Not only does it translate everything word by word, ignoring sentence structures entirely, but it's Estonian gets occasionally confused with Finnish. Not to mention the words that can be translated in several different ways. And the words that didn't get translated at all.

I had it translate my journal into Estonian and I haven't been able to stop laughing since. It sounds as it's been written by someone who has only just begun to learn the language.

Most amusing bits:
It translates my 'nature' tag as temperament, rather than the outside world
Word 'duty' as customs duty, instead of chore
'character' is letter, instead of person
'beading' is profiling
'sleeping' is sleeping bag
'unrelated' is independent
'a' is one-time
'collapse' is lay off
'chair' is chairman
'expansion pack' is parliament
'quote' is price offering
'channeling' is chicken (I know, WTF!?)

In complete WTF!! side of things:
my 'whine' tag turned into kimahdella
'whoosh' is suhahtaa
'madder' is värimatara
'set' is määrittäessäni
'dispose' is haravointi
'sparkle' is kimaltelee

That's not even Finnish!

Also it translates Transformers as trafo, which I think is a car part. And it can translate 'fuck', but not 'barking'.
So yeah.

EDIT: I just translated this post and it was even more lulzworthy. Also, it still doesn't translate 'barking', but translated 'fuck' into a different profanity.

Bumi/Avatar the Last Airbender
Atla is one of the few fandoms that I'm not "shy" about. Meaning that I actually participate in the fandom instead of occasionally lurking in. It wasn't always easy to keep up with the series as it wasn't shown in my country back then,but I managed with some "creativity".
Bumi is awesome. Period. He's completely insane and terribly intelligent and a powerful bender. While also being over 100 years old. Among minor characters he's my #1 favourite.

Snow
I live up in the north so it's natural that we get snow in the winter. Generally I love it, it's prettier than the dead and dark ground and it sparkles. Everything's better with sparkles in my opinion (except vampires). But when it gets too deep, that's when problems arise. I can't even remember all the times I've sprained some part of my legs because of it. And having to take the longer route because the shortcuts are no longer accessible is not fun either. On the other hand, building snow cities is a great activity (though I didn't participate in any this year).

Russian
I want to learn Russian, I really do. It would make my life much easier if I did. Unfortunately, no matter what I do, I just cannot learn it. I mean, I know the words, quite a lot of them, but I can't form a sentence.
I can more or less understand if I read a text in Russian or if someone speaks it slowly enough, but writing in Russian myself, or speaking it just doesn't work out. My one single success in Russian is that I can sing Подмосковные вечера by heart.

Earth tones
Earth is my element. I love earth tones because they're warm and lively without setting my retinas on fire. Plus they're very neutral and therefore fit pretty much everywhere. Earth tones calm me and energise me at the same time.

[My] family
...is my everything. My family is large. There are so many the aunts and uncles and greataunts and greatuncles and cousins of all varieties. And they're all great people, caring and fun. I can't imagine ever being without them, I don't want to imagine that and I won't. To lose a family member, no matter how distant, is a great tragedy to me. Any event that gathers our kinship together makes my heart sing. And of course my immediate family - my parents, my sister, my grandparents. I've never been apart from them and I care for them with an intensity that almost hurts. It's impossible to put into words what my family truly means to me.

I was lj-browsing, when I came upon this meme and remembered that kidscrappy tagged me to do it, like, 19847 years ago. I'm good at being late.

List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.

1. I can't sleep on an empty stomach. If I don't eat something at around midnight I'll be insomniac that night. And it need to be something filling. It won't help it if it's just a cookie or something.

2. I have vampire teeth (canines longer than other teeth), a fact that I'm ridiculously proud of and will show off whenever possible.

3. I seriously dislike being indoors. After a few hours of being confined, I get really jittery and start pacing around the house while looking out the windows. And my appetite skyrockets.

4. My form of flattery is nicknames. So if I start calling you something that's not your (user)name, it means I like you.

5. I can't tell difference between car brands. Unless I see the symbol of course. But otherwise no. I'm still trying to live down the time I confused my sister's boyfriend's BMW for my aunt's Opel.

6. I like sour taste. I mean, I really like sour taste. Back when I worked in a coffee bar, the other girls used to nick sugar cubes when no one was looking, I nicked lemon slices.

7. I handle cold better than heat. As a consequence I really dislike summer, but like winter. But my favourite season is still autumn.

It's actually a re-lengthening of a shortened name.
Supernova was a really old nickname that's origins I can't even remember, but I liked it enough to use it everywhere, except that I tagged 'lady' in front of it. Eventually everyone started calling me Nova, which I actually like better, but it looks boring, so I still kept the 'lady'.
Unfortunately, when I signed up here, lady_nova was taken (and ladynova aswell), so I turned it back into the original version.
(lady_nova's available now, but there's no way I'll pay for the renaming)
