Finale Report Card

These grades are only my personal opinions, of course. These only include shows that I've watched in entirety, so far this year. Along the way, had to drop a few shows, gawd knows when I'm going to resume. Still have quite a few shows to start on, too.

Only grading the finales, not scoring the season itself. For example, overall, True Detective was really good (an A even) but the finale left me dissatisfied. OTOH, My Mad Fat Diary's season 2 was not as good but the ending was everything.

Almost Human C
Brooklyn Nine-Nine A
Dracula B-
Elementary B-
Grimm B
Hannibal A
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D B+
My Mad Fat Diary A
Person of Interest A
Sherlock B
Sleepy Hollow B+
The Musketeers B-
The Originals B+
True Detective B- (I actually got more and more pissed off on rewatchings)

Alone in dark

TwoP's closing down

Damn, I had only started getting active again, last year. End of a fandom era.

Fall TV roundup

Been sick aplenty again so had lots of time to catch up on my tv. Plenty of new shows and some are becoming my staple (they still can't replace my baby, Hannibal, of course).

Brooklyn 9-9, Dracula, Elementary, Grimm, SHIELD, Person of Interest, Sleepy Hollow, Blacklist, Tomorrow People, Whose LineCollapse )

Clex Whaa

MoS sequel (flop) casting

Ben Affleck as Batman.

No. Just no.

Clex Whaa

Movie: Man of Steel

As a former SV fan, I am amused that Cavill looks a lot like Tom Welling. Especially when he smiles; they have the same fangs and everything.

Secondly, before anyone undertake a superhero movie, it should be mandatory for the person to study The Incredibles. Take a course in it, do essays, complete thesis, the works. There were so many times during MoS, I literally cringed at things. I'm all for reimaginings but you don't strip away the fundamentals!

I did like some parts; they're just not enough though. Will sort out thoughts later.

Grade: B-

Half year roundup of TV-watching.

Bloody heck, I typed up quite a size of a post and it just ate it all up.

I've never watched this much TV in a year. Nothing spoilery, I don't think. Also, I love lists.

[Shows that I loved]
Shows that I've loved, in order of preference:

  1. Hannibal

Most favorite show ever. Like EVER. There's nothing that I would want to change about the show; it is that flawless.

Beautiful cinematography (joy to icon). Strong women. Fantastic acting. Tight writing.

Guh, Mads Mikkelsen! Oh man, the things I wanna do to him! XD

  2. My Mad Fat Diary

Never thought I would get into a teen show but this one is so good. Everything and everyone's so relatable.

90s Britpop is the best music era ever.

  3. Grimm

This show really picked up in S2. Glad to see they are etching out their own mythology.

I love the whole gang; team Grimm ftw!

Couldn't stand Juliette until the last episode. We'll see how long that'll last.

  4. Person of Interest

Dude! Fiction turns reality. It turns out the US does have a machine that keeps track of everybody. I was gobsmacked how eerily similar both were.

Engaging leads. Strong women. Good writing. Have I mention it's prophetic?! Creepy, creepy, creepy.

All I have to do to enjoy the show, is to forget that it's Jim Caviezel.

  5. Elementary

Curiosity. I had to see why, even its reruns were beating Hannibal at ratings.

Its Joan and Sherlock are way more likeable than BBC's duo. And it's not a one-sided relationship; they help each other be better.

Noone's dumb on this show. The police are efficient; it's just that they need help from time to time.

It's a minor quibble but I wonder about Sherlock's finances. He doesn't draw a salary but he's employing 2 people. How long will his funds last?

  6. Orphan Black

I just finished watching this. Now I see what's the fuss about.

The lead actress is fucking goood. I can easily tell the clones apart because she manages to give each of them distinct personalities. I sometimes even forget that all of them are played by one actress. Bravo!

It's been quite sometime since I've enjoyed a scifi tv series. Even Fringe failed to interest me. Yes, I am saying this is better than Fringe.

  7. The Fall

Started watching because it's Gillian Anderson and I have a weakness for serial-killer shows.

Again, strong women (hmm, I sense a theme here). Flawed but root-able characters. Hawt leads.

This show is unique in portraying its serial killer. He's seemingly an everyday, family man and not some highly-intelligent, manipulative, ten-steps-ahead-of-the-police kind of serial killer (not that I don't love the latter).

The show is sloooooooooooowww. At the end of the season, none of its cases were solved and loose ends tied up. Plus, you'd have to wait for a year and half for the 2nd season!

[Shows that I tried getting into]
Shows that I tried getting into but can't:

  • Game of Thrones

I completed the first season so I really did try.

It is one of those cruel shows where they kill people willy-nilly. I feel so vindicated when I read about certain events that happened in S3.

I can barely tell anyone apart. I recognized Boromir! I rooted for Boromir. Silly me. -_-

  • Bates Motel

I love serial killer shows but I gave up on Dexter and Criminal Minds a long time ago. This show would have been a great replacement.

But it went there. There was a triggering scene from the get-go. I find it hard to watch the subsequent episodes, fearing that it will go there again. It's a good show but I am sorry that I had to give it up.

  • The Following

It started out so fantastic! Then everybody got stupid.

The show tried to convince me that it had a grand master plan. I'm convinced they ran out of pot and forgot where they were going with it.

[Shows that I'm giving up]
Show that I'm trying to give up:

  • True Blood
I managed to resist season 6 so far. But I was tempted when I came across Undercover Eric. Must. Resist.

[Shows that I'm looking forward to]
Shows that I'm looking forward to:

  • Sherlock

I need to know how he did it.

  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

I loved the Ironman and The Avenger movies.

It's helmed by Joss Whedon so I'm well aware of the pitfalls. But he knows how to do good tv.

  • Whose Line Is It Anyway

It's mainly for nostalgia's sake. I grew up with both the UK and US versions.

I watched bits of Improvaganza, an improv show involving all the WLiiA cast. I must say they were not as funny as they used to be. So I'm not expecting great success although I really hope for the best.

  • May create new tags for these new shows I've discovered. Have to give it a summer to decide whether they are staple tv and worthy of tags.

Yes!

HANNIBAL HAS BEEN RENEWED!!!

After last week's ratings, I really thought there was no hope. EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! I'm so psyched!

NBC's doing things

EOIN MACKEN HAS A JOB!
A medical drama (yes, another one of those, sigh) on NBC. But at least my boy's going to be on regular TV. That's something. I do see this lasting even though I would love for Eoin to do something else. If only he went with that Game of Thrones role.

Still no news on Hannibal. In fact, its fate may be decided AFTER the Upfronts (wat?!). *prayer circle*

Grimm got renewed, as expected. I just wish they would pair it with Hannibal so I get two of my current favourite shows in one night.

That's 3 shows. So basically, if Hannibal gets renewed, I will be NBC's bitch the whole year. :D

ETA: Just found out that Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen were in a movie called 'King Arthur'. Huh. Now they have a former Sir Gwaine joining the station.
