Wake Up With A Bang

It started like any typical night. I quietly whine and moan that my internet is out and that, apparently, cable was out too - the whine and moan were the typical parts. Lacking sleep or want to play Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Darkness again (I lack Explorers in the Sky and, yes, I want it), I dig around for a Playstation 2 game to play instead. It being October, I found a scary game to be fitting for me to play - Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne. At around 12:30 AM, As I quietly whined and moaned at Kin-Ki for giving me trouble because my team could use work, I hear an explosion. Shinji Yuugata the very glowy Fiend dude (aka my character) was just standing there and glowing, so it couldn't have been my game.

Also there's the fact that the last time I played Nocturne, my house didn't shake like it was in a 'quake.

Being certain that it was an exceptionally nasty lightning strike that hit too close to the home for comfort, I go and tell mom this when she wakes up to ask what was up. Satisfied with the answer, she goes back to bed. I then look out the window to see how bad the storm really was. Instead I see my neighbors all outside in their jammies, dry and staring at the sky.

I go join them. I, too, stare in awe at the bright lights illuminating the night sky like a giant candle in the shadows.

Radio news and witnesses were doing a piss poor job trying to figure out what the heck it was, though an answer more or less eventually did come:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3344576.....news-americas/

We stayed up until 3:00 in the morning (save mom, she was too tired) watching the sky, looking up news via radio or mobile phone and debating all that had just gone down that night. I try to sleep, but was still too exited to sleep, so I started to doodle at around 5:00 in the morning until mom woke up. Despite my telling her that it was a bad idea to go to work today (among other things, traffic was going to be painful, to use the nicest word I can think of), it wasn't until the news officially said that schools in the San Juan area were closed today that mom got the picture. I made her breakfast. We talked to neighbors some more. We stared in awe at the giant gray and white smoke now pouring out of the wreck like some sort of deep-sea creature swimming in the sky. Sleep finally hit me after that and I woke up about an hour and a half as of this writing (after, yes, internet and cable came back).

So how was your day?

However, you like your development and relationships to have some kind of overarching plot: you're not the type to enjoy a dressing room or any kind of roleplay where your character can't grow in at least a semi-structured manner. You enjoy exploring your character's psyche, but simple exploration isn't enough: you like to discover and then implement and use, and therefore continuity (which gives you "why"s and "how"s) is very important to you. You struggle when your character has no solid base in which to put down its roots, such as in games where there isn't enough structure or ones where the plot is continually changing.

http://www.helloquizzy.com/tests/roleplayer-test

...yeah sure why not

(x-posted from my Furaffinity account)

...to my gall bladder.

I'll sum it up as best as I can: On June 5th, after a heck of a barbecue binge on the 4th, I went to the hospital to deal with the fact that I was puking like mad and wasn't stopping. This isn't a new thing for me; 3 years ago a similar situation happened and it was said to have been gastritis.

This time, however, they included a sonogram in the checkup. That's when a doctor (that we dubbed Dr. House for his...tact) up and told me "you got a rock". And sometime later we asked him what to do and the answer was, to put it plainly, surgery.

Not since I was 8 had I ever been hospitalized. The surgery was on the very next day (6th) and I was released on the 7th (you can joke that my gall bladder went to join MJ at his memorial...if you've got a sick enough sense of humor).

So needless to say, my time online will be scarce, as I'm still healing from the surgery and it kind of hurts to sit up right now. To those I owe commissions (that'd be you, ReDaDillio), my apologies for the wait. Note me if you can't wait and want a refund instead.

Also I should note, I left behind my celphone's charger and I'm out of juice, I'll not be able to talk to anyone that way until Saturday, when dad will lend me his. Sorry about this.

    <lj:music>Michael Jackson - Man In The Mirror</lj:music>

It's funny...I hit up Youtube tonight to listen to MJ songs while drawing and an observation came to me: In many of his songs, he wholeheartedly proclaimed he wanted to be left alone.

Well...he finally got his wish. God knew he needed it, after being in the limelight for so long, after all it did to him. True, it made him one of the biggest names in music history*, but considering the changes that affected him along the way? True, much of it is self-inflicted, but you can't argue the strain of being so famous didn't have a hand in it.

So with that, I can honestly say: Rest in Peace, MJ.

*speaking of HIStory, a while back I found my copy had a weird scratch on it in the back that I will dare say makes the CD unusable. I may have to bug people over the weekend to help me find MP3s of some of the songs, as I miss listening to it dearly (And, as I own the friggin' album, it'd technically be legal for me to own these...I think?). So, hit me up when I'm on AIM sometime if you think you can help. I want stuff from both CDs but am especially looking for the newer one of the two.

    <lj:music>Pokemon Johto Champion (Italian theme)</lj:music>

WARNING, INCOMING POKE-NERDGASM. WARNING, INCOMING POKE-NERDGASM

Recently (as of this writing) we finally got our confirmation that Pokemon Gold/Silver is getting remade for the Nintendo DS, and may come pretty soon, at least in Japan (We'd get it around next year). Now, I have a couple predictions of what this will entail and you're all free to say yay or nay to any of these or even toss in your own predictions. Remember, I'm just a fan and I don't guarantee to be right in any of these (and even hope to be wrong on some of these), but it doesn't hurt to see how on the ball I am in this.

Predictions that could potentially be true (or I wish were true):

- DSi camera gimmick, probably something silly like making Pokemon picture frames with your team or something.

- Sevii Island-esque world to explore post game. Or, better yet, expanding on the Kanto side even more than the original game did, maybe do more with the Kanto Gym leaders.

- Much, much prettier PokeGear. Will....probably work exactly like the Poketch from D/P/Pt, but then that's not a BAD thing since all it means is you access all your stuff from the lower screen. Probably won't get as many useless trinkets added, though.

- NO CONTESTS. May be a bad thing for some, yes...but I hate Contests, so you'll forgive me if I'm a bit mean about this.

- More radio stations for...the radio. Maybe start with the original stations and add one or two new ones post-game. BONUS DSi GIMMICK: Use SD Card to play your own music via the radio, essencially turning it into a PokeMP3 player.

- GTS returns. Most obvious location would be Goldenrod, but then they may take a new aesthetic approach to it.

-Shinies stay as just aesthetically different Pokemon. None of that 'better stats' stuff from, well, Gold/Silver/Crystal. Red Gyarados will be back, though, yaaaaay.

- Your mom is a bank again. Yes, this DOES sound awkward to say out of context.

- This one's a bit of a stretch, admittedly, but weirder things have happened: new formes for a couple of Gen 2 Pokemon. Maybe the Beast trio? Or even something really unexpected, like...Polar Ursaring or something. Eh.

- This one's also a stretch but still plausible: New Move Tutors.

Predictions I really hope to be wrong in:

- No compatibility with the GBA games. DSi doesn't have a GBA slot. Nintendo will want any future shiny new games that could potentially sell consoles (which Pokemon can do) to be made for the new consoles - ergo, the game would have to be made with the DSi in mind. This could mean we could get Pokemon games in the DSi Shop someday, but that's not really the same thing.

- Inability to access certain alt formes for certain 4th gen Pokemon, Rotom being the one that makes me wonder the most (you could probably transfer the event items for Shaymin and Giratina and Deoxys just needs one little corner with rocks on it a la Veilstone to do his thing). Hopefully I'm wrong and you can find means to get the other formes post-game, but I woudn't put it past Nintendo to think this not a worthwhile thing to do.

- The return of that damn 'new generation evolution limiter' from FireRed/LeafGreen. What's this, you ask? It's this inane system they added to keep the Pokedex from just being the Gen 1 Pokedex by omitting the ability to acquire any pokemon's evolution or pre-evolution that isn't in the list (example: You can't evolve your Golbat into Crobat until you finish the main game, or do any actual breeding until post-game). Annoying as sin, but would make sense for this to be implemented again.

- Screwing with the HMs again, or rather when you try transferring pokemon with HMs that don't exist in G/S, such as Rock Climb. Hard to explain it but mark my words, if this comes to be you KNOW what I'll be referring to and you WILL be annoyed.

- Beast Trio are still runners. Damn runners.

That's it for now. Got any predictions of your own, feel free to share 'em! Or link to your journal if you post them there!

<lj:music>Boom Boom Satellites - Shut Up And Explode</lj:music>

Don't mind me, just jotting down an idea while it's mostly fresh...well technically it was started last night, but between doodling, torrenting Xam'd, playing Pokemon Platinum and just...not...remembering to write this down then, I'm writing it down now. Can anything be done with it? Hell if I know.

Sketches based on this mental brainstorm will be uploaded later.

Tentative project title: Carosello

Visual element: Armored animals with pointed drill- like protrusions on chest region and back, representing carousel 'stands' (tubes? I think that's the term). floating orbs gyrate over each end, the one on the back not only being larger but also acting as a floating axis to bladed weapons that the user can use to battle against others of its kind. If you've ever seen Amaterasu from Okami fight with her disklike(mirror) weapon is in its sword form, that's partially the visual I'm aiming for - creatures battling with swords, lances, axes and the like that they control by sheer will with the back-orbs being the focal point. Most fight with one or two, 'boss' creatures probably having multiple weapons.Horselike beasts are referred to as 'Carus' (Carousel) while those shaped like most other animals are referred to as Merigo (Merry-Go-Round). Tentatively want to make something based off Chariots (also called lover's seats...the chairs, essentially), but nothing comes to mind except maybe large, bulky humanoid golems with the same stands and weapons as the others.

Additionally, I drew up an additional character based on this idea currently nicknamed Dentzel, a teenage girl who ends up being transported to this world and having the same drill-stand things sprouting from her body, allowing her to control a floating blade of her own. Her story, should one ever exist, will be told once I have a better grasp as to where I'm going with this.

Where Am I Going With This: Right now, no idea. I simply write it down in the hopes of someday finding a means to flesh this out in some way, from an art series to a full-out story. Until then, I'll just write this down for the sake of reemembering will the time comes. Should other ideas unrelated to this come up, I'll see about writing them on my journal, too.

That which gives me the most joy online these past few months is lately making me go mad as more changes, more cases of mis-communication and more out and out banality and things that make my head get acquainted with my keyboard have been popping out of the woodwork, from the small and insipid to the less-small and teeth-grating.

And letting it go just means it will slowly wither and die in a mass of excrement rather than a blaze of glory.

By the way I'm going to visit the psychologist today for my bi-monthly checkup. Watch as we both go off on a tangent talking about, say, my horrid sleep schedule and get nothing about what's really been bugging me lately off my chest! I'd ask to go to another one but this is like my...5th? 6th? I lost count. And still I keep my ass patience and my ass temperament. I know well they can only do so much, but it's like NOTHING exists that can make me really change all the way, you know? Every time I leave that office I have this lingering feeling of self-worth and a positive attitude that just fades away the minute I get back home because reality kicks me in the nuts I don't have.

I can't do this. I can't want to leave and want to stay at the same time. I'd give anything for just one big reset button that can give me the time I need to fix things so no bitching happens and I feel like I accomplished something again, but it's just not happening. Nnngh.

And because of that, I don't even want to go to see the psych. I mean, how the hell do you explain internet drama to a little old lady? Plus, I don't know, I need to hear it from someone else, someone who gets it...someone who can at least lie to me and say "you know what, you're not needed after all. Go take your break." or something.

It's too much. Too much.

<lj:music>The sound of a bunch of happy little Eleutherodactylus singing</lj:music>

As noted here: http://kompy.livejournal.com/62022.html?nc=2 I can't vote.

But man never did I think I'd actually be sad that I didn't vote. True he would have won without me, but...ok let me put it another way.

Over here, I voted (my first time voting, no less) for Figueroa for Governor, representative of the PPR. I knew the guy didn't have a snowball's chance in you-know-where, but you know what? I still wanted to make my first vote go to the one whose political party called to me the most. They're dreamers, wanting to put aside the whole "will we or won't be a state someday" mentality for just one moment to give focus to how the island can be amended NOW, with what we got NOW. I voted for that which I felt would mean real change if it were brought to light.

I would have loved to have voted in these elections, because voting for *either* of them would have led to big change, though it's obvious which one was the better example of that. I'd have loved to have helped make history, to have put my wish for that change to be marked with a pen and slipped into a ballot box. Will that change be good? Who knows. The only certainty is that it was needed and that any step that leads there is a step worth taking.

So to those who felt they won, congratulations.

For those who felt they lost, don't fret. You may have lost, but know that had you won, your path would have also led to big changes in how the USA is standing now.

There's no saying what the future will bring. Just that one will be brought.

Edit: Yeah yeah, there's the whole deal with Prop 8 crapping some people's moods. I never said change was going to start being good right away, just that it'll happen...very slowly, very rocky, maybe bad. Just, God willing, not Bush bad.

And no Wii. You suck for the Wii thing :P

So, Earth Rat of '08. I'll be honest, I'm not really expecting anything from you. Maybe some new shows and movies and most definitely new art from me and other folks, but beyond that? I just want a change. A real change. A change in myself to not just decide on a path of life, but to actually have the willpower to do it. A change in perspective. A change of scenery. A change to better myself financially and spiritually.

In the video game Okami, you (well, Tachigami, your representative) give the player a sword to cut a path through the very world itself to clear your way. May I and other be given a tool like that to use for ourselves in our own lives--the power to just slash through all the doubts and fears inside of us and shape our path in life as we wish it to go.

Here's hoping for a good one. Happy New Year, folks.

*actually no, if we were to go by the actual Chinese calendar, I have your equally fiery Dog sibling to thank for the license, as that was in January. Though maybe I should shush now, as I sense I may get completely pwned by someone with far better knowledge of Chinese astrology than me. Also I would have made a Gurren-Lagann-esque "PIERCE THE HEAVENS" joke with the Okami thing, but she gives you a sword, not a drill. Stupid not-having-a-drill Rat.
