Create a sidebar widget of featured pages or posts in a variety of flexible ways..
The three types of Now Featuring widgets are:
- Single
- Slider
- List
You can use either posts or pages for the featured content, which can be selected by either category, tags or by individual selection.
The widget uses the featured image from the post or page to display on the sidebar. This plugin adds featured image support to pages to increase the flexibility of the plugin.
** For best results, use images that are similarly sized for your featured images. **

How to install the Now Featuring Widget plugin:
- Download the zip file from accessible from the WordPress Plugins space
- Upload and unzip into the plugins directory ( /wp-content/plugins/ ) on your server
- Activate the plugin through the .Plugins. menu in WordPress
- Add the widget to a sidebar via the .Widgets. page under the .Appearance. menu
- Set the options, and save your settings

Options:
The widget options user interface varies as per what Widget Type you chose.
Title – The title preceding the widget on the sidebar
Widget Type – Single, Slider or List
Post Type – Post or Page
How? – by Category, by Tag, by Selection
Category – The category of posts or pages to include if ‘by Cagegory’ is selected
Tag – The tag of posts or pages to include if ‘by Tag’ is selected
Selection – The selection posts or pages to include if ‘by Selection’ is selected
List Limit – The limit of posts or pagesm from category or tag, to display if ‘by List’ selected (5 by default)
Thumbnail Width – Change the width of the thumbnail image if ‘by List’ selected (100% by default)
Transition – The way the slider transitions between photos… Slide or Fade, if Slider Widget Type is selected
Slide automatically? – Yes or No, if Slider Widget Type is selected
Wait time – The number of milliseconds inbetween slides, if Slider Widget Type is selected
Randomize? – Randomize the order of the images shown in the slider? Yer or No, if Slider Widget Type is selected
Include title? – Yes or No
Include excerpt? – Yes or No

How do I change the length of the excerpt shown?
The Now Featureing widget uses WordPress built in functionality to get the content excerpt. This pluging enables the ‘Excerpt’ meta box on the edit screen, below the main compose box, where you can enter your own excerpt. If you leave this blank, the first 55 characters are passed to the widget. This number can be modified by adding a filter on the ‘excerpt_length’, via php code in the functions.php file. Some themes allow you to change this value in the theme customizations.
