OK yes I still love QaF, but after many years I have finally found my next real fandom:

BTS.

Yes, that is right, I have become a BTS ARMY. There is no denying it now because I am so undeniably, emotionally invested.

I found the BTS fandom through the most backdoor way imaginable. I'm going to leave out the details and just say, unrelated podcast --> A03 fanfic --> YouTube/ Twitter.

But yeah, seriously. They are so great. 💜 My current favorite song is about the adorable, heartfelt, friendship between two of them. I love it so much, I was trying to learn the words so I can sing along, even though I don't speak one word of Korean.

This afternoon it was so fun to see so many of the QaF cast coming together for this fundraiser! Video Link! It ended up being over 4 hours long and so full of wonderful people and conversations!

Hal was chatting in the live chat the whole time.

Highlights / things I learned:
- There were 3 different Babylons. The Location changed over time.
- People are nuts over Randy Harrison. They were just asking for him constantly. But he didn't arrive until like 2 1/2 hours into it. LOL.

- Randy is NOT a Brian and Justin shipper. His dream is for Justin to settle down with a nice guy in the suburbs. Oh, Randy I love your honesty. But it's not what we want to hear, so people need to stop asking him where Brian and Justin would be today. Same thing with the "what's your favorite scene" question. We all know it's the prom dance. Why not ask, "What was your favorite Justin haircut?" Just an idea. :)
- Hal said that at first Michael felt toward Hunter the same way he'd feel toward a squirrel in the house. I am a fan of analogies so I liked this a lot.
- Speaking of Hunter, Harris was only like 17 when he started on the show.
- Harris sang us an original song. It was very emotional.
- Hal said in a comment that today Michael would be still running his comic shop and maybe the local Comic-Con. (Some of you writers got it correct it seems!)
- One of Hal's favorite memories of the show was Sharon learning to hit him.
- One of Robert's favorite moments was the needle scene.
- One of Harris's favorite scenes was his reverse-coming out scene.
- It was so sweet to see Scott get all choked up. <3
- We should all watch Adoptable.

I asked awesome cameraman Sean Jensen about how he filmed those spinning scenes and he responded!:

I had no idea that was all done by hand. I was always looking around trying to find some track onto which they had attached the camera so it would go around and around. I had no idea poor Sean was running circles around them the whole time! Heehe. Sean you are amazing.

OMG, QaF isn't on Netflix anymore! Oh no!
Good thing I have my DVDs, but it was so convenient to watch the random episode or scene when it was streaming. And what about all the new fans? If there really is a reboot coming, surely that will bring fresh interest in the original show.
Maybe they will bring it back again later?? :-/

New Vid - Brian/Justin - Aftermath

Shortly after I finished Despacito, I received a request to make a vid to Aftermath by Lifehouse. The song fit for me, so I said yes. It was also a chance to collaborate in some way, which I love.

This is a companion vid to the final part of TrueIllusion's fanfic series, Familiarity, which can be found on AO3, Kinnetik Dreams, or Midnight Whispers. (This vid appears at the end of Chapter 3 of the final part.) The theme of her fic matches closely with this song. The vid deals with past struggles, while the fic deals with future ones. If you like some major hurt/comfort, this fic and vid are for you.

Now, other than also a Brian/Justin vid, this vid could not be more different from my previous one... or than most of my vids, really. Other than a few tidbits here and there, I have never vidded these topics before. This is probably the most serious vid I have ever made, in which for once, it's not about them getting together or breaking up or learning to love each other or any of those things I normally focus on. This vid is purely about the way they make it through some terrible things together, things that are very hard but things which ultimately bring them closer together.

The other thing about this vid was that the song is slooooow. It took me quite awhile to figure out how to pace the vid accordingly. I ended up adding some extra audio, which is something I almost never do, but it seemed to add something dramatic to the vid and was fun to play around with. I also finally taught myself how to use the canned credits which come with Adobe Premiere Pro, because obviously until now I was so much enjoying doing things the hard (not as good, manual, simple but complicated) way. LOL.

New Brian/Justin video (yes, NEW.)

So, YouTube decided to die today, which is kind of annoying but oh well, I'm sure they will fix it!

Anyway, a few days ago I posted something new (yes, 2018 new) on AO3. Then I realized I should maybe post it here too, since this has historically been the center of my fandom universe.

So, here is is, LJ. Just in case.

Now, this is a little something different. It's kind of a fanvid, but not. Normally I mostly leave the song as-is and edit the heck out of the video to fit it. This time, I mostly left the video as-is and I edited the song to fit it.

Why? Well, because their love is too pure not to have a beautifully dramatic soundtrack to go with their grand finale. After years of being depressed by it, I wanted to like it. So this is a purely self-indulgent thing I made. But who knows, someone else might enjoy it too.

I have plans for more, in HD I think! Pending equipment and software upgrades. Vidding, oh how I have missed you.

I continue to re-upload Kitze Productions vids. Many of them can now be found on the kitzeproductions YouTube channel. I am also starting to list them on the new kitzeproductions AO3.

To say this has been a nice trip down memory lane would be an understatement. There's just something about fandom that's unlike anything else!

OK, I'm off to read some more Brian/Justin post-513 fic now. In this one, approx 34-year-old Justin has a baby (realistically), is raising it with Brian, and it's just so darn sweet I could die.

You people have been up to some really awesome stuff while I was gone.

I am just looking at archiveofourown.org for the first time, and I am amazed by how awesome it is! A central location to archive fan works? I am so excited right now...! (The FAQ is really helpful, too, as I am trying to determine where to re-upload all of my vids.)

...And... wow! There is a vidders.net now? I see you need a membership, but $20 a year is way cheaper than what I was paying for my site before. Speaking of that, what do you all prefer to use? I see livejournal also allows you to upload vids, now, but there's very limited space.

Jumping back in after a long hiatus

I haven't been around here much in the last 5 years, because I have been pretty busy in RL. (Got married, had a baby, etc.) Lately things in RL have been slowing down a bit, and I finally feel like I have some space in my life for fandom again!

I've gone through and trimmed my friends list down to just names I recognise. I'm really interested to see what people have been up to.

What fandoms are you all into lately? I have been watching some shows (Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead) but am looking for more. Does anyone have any recommendations?

We have decided to shut down kitzeproductions.net. It's been quite awhile since f1renze or I has made any vids, and it doesn't pay for us to maintain the site any longer. The site will be available until 2/16/2015, if anyone wants to grab a copy of any of our vids before then.

Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars

I just watched Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars for the fist time. HOLY CRAP.

Ten really went too far. He scared me! Now I'm thinking about that vid from Vividcon, "I can ride my bike with no handlebars." WOW. His ego is SO right there. He thinks he's the god of the universe! That is SCARY.

I can't believe the suicide at the end. In the story it made sense, sure, but in the UK, this show is for KIDS! I am shocked.

I have the new episode, the 2-parter, ready for me to watch... but I am terribly afraid of what will happen. To say there's been foreshadowing of what's to come... is an understatement.

ETA: No spoilers, please!

I am NOT happy that Kutner is dead. When they didn't even show his body, the first thing I thought was, "HOLY CRAP, I hope that nothing happened to Kal Penn which I didn't hear about!" Thankfully, Wikipedia seems to think he's ok and it was just a cheap way of making a "special episode".

I think Kutner was murdered by Taub, but the sad picture of him at the end (just to create some doubt in House's mind) was a nice touch.

It's been over 4 months since my last post, and I know exactly where the time went... into the time hole that is depressing Wisconsin winter! :| I haven't been on a real trip since Christmas, and since it was hell to go outside, pretty much all I did during that time was work, watch TV and movies, and hang out with a person or two. Blah. Thankfully it's almost spring and I can start venture outside a bit more.

Back from Vividcon!

I actually arrived home on Sunday night, but I've been busy unpacking and working and watching ~~crack~~ Blackpool...

Vividcon was good this year. I didn't get as wild and crazy as in the past, but I did learn a lot. I got to meet/see settiai (my roomie), anoel, nevermind98, obsessive24, par_avion, kuwdora, and... well, there were many others. :)

We had a little Doctor Who party in our room on Friday night, and we watched part of The Five Doctors and vids, and ate jelly babies and bananas, and drank tea. Some of us (who shall remain nameless) were a little silly at that point. (If you were there, I might have some photos of you.. so if you want me to send them to you, comment with your email address. *cough*niqaeli*cough*)

Panels
Collaborative vidding - I suggested this panel, and I was really happy with how it turned out. The vidding teams who led the panel mostly vid together in person, which is very different from the way I myself have done collabs in the past (with f1renze). It was fun to hear how they interact and make decisions, and the benefits and drawbacks of vidding with other people. It really made me want to make a collab again! *sigh*

The Two-Hour Kiss - OK, astolat rules. This is the only panel in which I took down significant notes. We basically learned how to use Adobe After Effects to make Vince and Eric from Entourage kiss. IT WAS AWESOME. Now I know how to make masks, and I can make ~~Ten and Jack~~ any two characters kiss! In fact, if I get really ambitious, maybe I can take it even further. HMMMMMMMMM..... *evil grin*

I suck - I am glad I made it to this panel, because there was some good content (like pointing out that sometimes when your vid has problems you want real feedback, and sometimes you just need hugs and chocolate)... but really it was mostly fluff. I loved it. Also, they handed out little gift bags at the end, and now I have a stress toy shaped like a computer that says "RENDER!" on the screen!! WHEEEE!!!

How to Reinvent Yourself - The only note I wrote down for this was "The goal of the first draft is to exist." I think the main point I got from the panel is that it's more important to vid what you like and make yourself happy than to always try to do the next big thing in vidding.

Vidshows
I saw a lot of vids, but I'm just going to mention a few of my favorites here:

A Thousand Suns by Andraste (Torchwood) - This vid made me cry. At first I thought it was a Jack/everyone vid, which is MADE OF AWESOME, and then I realized it was an everyone/everyone vid! THEY ALL LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH, AWW!! It was happy and sad at the same time. YAY!

Never Loved a Man (The Way That I Love You) by Eunice (Doctor Who) - This vid cracked me up so much! It was an auction vid and the song was so perfect for Doctor/Master, heehehehe. I loved the Doctor POV. I won't spoil it... you should go watch it yourself and you will see what I mean. :D

Cells by Vaeltaa (Torchwood) - This was an Owen vid and it was amazing! I can't be more specific since I only saw it once.

This World by Buffyann (Battlestar Galactica) - The song was slow but it was an action vid! I liked the way that worked.

Strength in You by here's luck (Gilmore Girls) - This was a Rory and Lorelai friendship vid and it was sooooo cute.

The Wanderer by Melina (Doctor Who/Torchwood) - I just remember that it was a Jack vid, and it was really sweet. I need to watch again!

Day in the Life by astolat and Speranza (Dead Zone) - This was awesome and, like last year, made me want to watch Dead Zone!

Tear You Apart by Brad (Firefly) - This was my favorite "f*** you" challenge vid. The summary was a little misleading (in a good way) because it said "It feels so right. A Simon/Kaylee vid." (Brad, you are EVIL!) and then halfway through you realize it's a crazy slightly twisted River POV of Simon/Kaylee, and it's AWESOME. I LOVE LOVE LOVE.

There were some vids at Club Vivid which I loved as well, but I was too busy dancing to figure out what they were. I remember I need to watch Pushing Daisies, though. That show is SO CUTE! I've only seen the first episode so far. The vid for it was lovely.

Oh, I had a vid premiering at Club Vivid, also (Doctor Who). It's getting kind of late now so I think I am going to post it tomorrow. I still need to encode it and stuff.
