HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE IN GREECE
January 27 has been established as the National Day of Remembrance for the Greek Jewish Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust, under Law 3218/2004, which was unanimously passed by the Hellenic Parliament. Every year, commemorative events are held throughout Greece, in cooperation with the regions, municipalities, and local Jewish communities. Acts of remembrance are also carried out by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), of which Greece has been a full member since 2005. At the same time, the Hellenic Parliament commemorates Holocaust Remembrance Day with a special tribute during the Plenary Session on January 27 and by illuminating the Parliament building. In schools across the country, instructional hours are dedicated to the history of the Holocaust following a relevant circular from the Ministry of Education. Educational programs for students as well as for teachers are conducted in cooperation with the General Secretariat of Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Education and the Jewish Museum of Greece.
