The project involved the construction of a new reinforced concrete bridge deck across the existing Skenes Creek Road Bridge and a brand new stand-alone pedestrian bridge adjacent to it.
Works comprised the construction of new pedestrian bridge abutments, including formwork, reinforcement fixing, and installation of structural steel components. The project also included the erection of pier strengthening brackets associated with the existing road bridge structure.
Concrete works included the forming, reinforcement placement, and pouring of both the road and pedestrian bridge decks to achieve the required structural performance and finish in accordance with project specifications and relevant Australian Standards.
Additional works involved the construction of reinforced concrete approach slabs at both ends of the pedestrian bridge to provide smooth transitions between the walkway and bridge structure. All activities were undertaken while maintaining safety, quality assurance, and environmental controls within an operational road corridor.
The completed works delivered two bridge structures, improving the load capacity, traffic functionality and safety for the Great Ocean Road transport network.
