SINCERITY
Mental Health III
Sincerity is the virtue of one who communicates and acts in accordance with the entirety of their feelings, beliefs, thoughts, and desires in a manner that is honest and genuine.
At one time or another, we find ourselves in difficult situations, in positions where the path forward is unclear or the load in our hearts is heavy for us to bear alone. During those periods, all we need is a listening ear. Someone that will listen with empathy, no preconceived notions about us and no judgements.
There are societal mechanisms available to help cope with such situations but these mechanisms fall short sometimes because of the expectations that come with them. We might find ourselves in a position where a neutral party that will not only listen but listen with empathy, without the need to scold, judge or offer up solutions is all that is required.
At Keka we’re creating that neutral third party in the form of volunteers looking to lend an empathetic listening ear.
There are few guidelines for engaging with the community to ensure that every participant maximizes the experience.
Sincerity: Sincerity is the only way through which one can unburden. Being sincere when engaging in the community allows the listener the opportunity to give their best.
“When pure sincerity forms within, it is outwardly realized in other people's hearts.”
―Lao Tzu
Solicitation: Using the platform as a means to ask for money or any form of solicitation is strongly prohibited. This goes against the mission and could potentially prevent people that actually need the service from gaining access to it.
Conduct: It is encouraged that respect and dignity are accorded to everyone on the platform. This makes the process enjoyable to every participant thereby creating a stronger community.
Meetups: This is a virtual-only community at the moment. This is to reduce the associated risk of meeting strangers for the first time.
Goal: Some situations require the attention of healthcare professionals. This community will be ineffective to handle such situations. It is designed to tackle scenarios where a listening ear and a different point of view can serve to unburden or provide clarity to the individual.
Help is a call away. To get started, follow these steps.
